Identify old generator

I have an old Delco Remy generator, spur-gear driven, with a 4-cylinder distributor on the back end. Does anyone have a source to check the numbers on the tags? Generator is 941F, serial 4776. Distributor is 629T, serial 792. Thanks to any who respond.

Here are the photos. I was hoping someone still has a catalog like I used in a past life: All generator/distributor/starter numbers listed numerically showing application. I am hoping for an actual application, not wild guesses.

Try number 3 on posting photos. Geez, I don't like computers sometimes.

my grandpa had a model 29 owatonna swather with a wisconsin engine on it .it had a set up like that on it .i remember the generator quit and we sometimes had to pull the cutterbar belt to start it . as i recall it was a 6 volt system

At the deer shack there was a doodle bug made from a 1929 IHC truck. It looks like the same set-up. Is the dist for a 4 cylinder engine?

I don't know exact model either, but they were used on Wisconsin 4 cyl engines. First time I saw one was out on a service call in the field, a swather conked out.

Thank you all for the replies. The doodad on top is just that, something someone pushed over the top of the shaft. It is definitely a distributor. The top of the shaft has the indexing notch for the rotor, the oil felt is in place, it has a 4-lobe cam, and a mechanical advance mechanism. The case is tapped for the two clips that hold the cap retaining spring clips. The Wisconsin application is the most likely, in my mind. This thing followed me home back in the mid-60's* when there was a clean up in the parts room at the Massey Ferguson dealer where I was the junior parts person. Now, if someone can just tell me what model Wisconsin . . . There were lots of VG-4D, VH-4D, and even a few VP-4D's used on the farm and orchard equipment that came through the shop. This unit has been dropped, and the 90 degree housing at the back end is cracked. That may be why it was sitting on the shelf, just waiting to be stripped of usable parts. Jerry.
* As a lifelong pack rat, you just never know when something like this might come in handy. Now it's time to disburse . . .

What is the difference in the VG-4D, VH-4D & VP-4D? Have a friend that just a couple of weeks ago told me it would like to aquire a bunch of repair ports for a 4 cylinder Wisconsin. He did not know the model number but probably could find it on the engine. It is in a street sweeper they use on shopping center parking lots 2 days each week in 3 different towns. The unit is mounted on a 90's? Chevy 1 ton truck so his would be using 12 volts. As I am imaging the battery is the truck battery. He had both heads crack and had to get them welded before he could go to work. Was not long after he asked me if I knew of any engines that might be avaible and I have found 2 of them but they are crank start. Can a starter be mounted on them?

There are a few Wisconsin sites on the web, I suggest your friend check them out. The difference between the V-4's was cubic inch displacement, thus horsepower. The "V" meant a V layout of the cylinders, the letter was engine size, and any Wisconsin with a "D" suffix meant it had stellite valves. My memory says all the V4 engines had a ring gear on the flywheel. Some had an electrical system with starter, others had a tin plate over the starter mount hole, some had cranks with a magneto, and some had a hand-wheel on the output shaft for starting. Wisconsin engines are incredibly well built, with tapered roller bearing main bearings, and put out their maximum horsepower at low RPM, as opposed to modern engines that must turn fast to get their rated power. Feed them clean air (both cooling and for combustion), clean fuel, change the oil, and dump some Marvel Oil down the intake before storage and they will last a very long time. Repair parts are hard to find, and expensive, but available for the most part. Jerry
