Hi we are currently restoring a 1966 John Deere 5020. Pretty much have it back together there is just one thing we would like to do and that is to turn up the fuel on it. It has a roosa master pump on it and ive researched on how to do it but just cant find any information. I would appreciate some help! Thanks, Weston

Take the top cover off and look down inside then turn engine over until the leaf spring hex screw appears.

Turn screw clockwise 1/4 turn increments to desired power level.

First back out the angled torque screw if it has one. Then go after the leaf spring screw, but if it bottoms out DON'T leave it there, back it off slightly to keep the screw head from breaking off. Depending on what size leaf spring is in the pump, or if the stock setting limit shims are still behind the spring you may not gain much. Then a spring change will be needed.

Word of caution. I once heard a tractor jockey say the 5010 and I think the 5020 should hold the worlds record for connecting rod tossing !

The 531 and early 619 tossed rods and spin mains because the oil pump drive was fragile . Wouldn't run one of those myself without a Murphy switch on the oil pressure .

Hey B&D,

wasnt there an oil pump drive upgrade or improvement to that though? Would that have rolled out with the 8630 era tractors? Something that should be able to be retro fitted into a 531 early 619?
