Way OT: Dishwasher sound insulation

I apologize for the ot post but there is more knowledge and wisdom here than any other place I know. Our 15 yr. old dishwasher is beyond repair. When shopping for a new one I found that the ones with the best sound rating were crazy expensive, paying big bucks for just a few points reduction of dba's. Pocketbook dictated that I buy one with a 50 dba rating. Is there an economical way that I can improve this before it is installed. It had to be ordered and wont be available for me to pick up until Thursday evening on my way home from work. I would like to make it as quiet as possible as cheap as possible. Thanks in advance!

Keep in mind that a reduction of only 2 or 3 points cuts the "sound pressure" in HALF.

But anyway, 50 dba is pretty quiet. If you've ever heard one of those small Honda inverter generators running, that's about how loud 50 dba is.

There's not really much you can do because the main outlet for the noise is the front door of the dishwasher. It's already packed with electronics and insulation. All you could do is glue foam to the outside of the door, and I doubt your wife would appreciate that.

Get the $250 Frigidaire from Lowes and forget the noise and worrying about replacement for a long, long, time. I recently bought my second one, not because it quit on me, but because I was just wearing it out, like the rollers that hold the baskets, and the basket coatings were wearing off and exposing steel which had started washing. You would be duly impressed with just how quiet it is and how well it cleans dishes. I'm trying to remember how long I had the first one but best I can recall is mid 90's when I tore out my old kitchen cabinets and put in new ones. It was only $199 at Lowes. Oh, forgot to say that there was zero maintenance over the life of the old one.

I don't worry about the noise. Before I head upstairs for bed, I turn on the dishwasher using a 2 hour delay. Get up and the dishes are ready to be put away. No noise when I watch evening TV, uses utilities at night when the utility company needs it. Wish there was a delay on my washing machine...

We had a problem with one of our Whirlpool-made dishwashers that required replacing the whole tub. The upgraded insulation package was a few sheets of sticky board to glue right to the sides and an insulation wrap that could have been transferred from the old one, as previously mentioned. Our current dish washer is non-Whirlpool and has a stainless tub with insulation, MUCH quieter than the plastic ones. If yours does not have sufficient insulation, I see no reason any fiberglass batt would not work.
