Love these folks on CL sometimes, called about a tractor with 'shifter trouble' yesterday fellow said it had been in the barn for awhile and he pulled it out 'couple weeks ago' because he was moving had,he'd had the tractor a long time.Said it was running good before he quit using it because a part on the shifter was bent.I drove over about about 60 miles to his place with the truck and trailer his dad is there because he's working.Looked the tractor over and its the tractor that was in an auction just last Saturday at a place about 10 miles from his place,I was going but went to another sale.Anyway I didn't mention that checked the tractor over and checked it out engine is stuck tight and its been outside for a good while for sure. His dad won't say much says I need to talk to the son,he gives some he's can't believe its locked up just sitting in the barn etc.I'm getting pretty tickled by now anyway I offer him a price he says no then he calls dad back and tells me I can have it.Good part is I ended up buying a real good New Holland 56 rake for $500 from the father before I left so I come home with a good load also mentioned to the dad before I left that the boy needs to sharpen up on selling things that have been in auction pictures. He just chuckled.all and all a good and interesting day.

Is it possible that he tried to consign the tractor at the action with a minimum price and it didn't sell? I have went to a few farm auctions but there are usually a few items that are consigned by the neighbors.

I see tractors all the time that were bought at auctions and put on craigslist the same night. ("I bought this tractor to restore, but don't have the time"), (" I bought it from the original owner"), ("I bought this tractor and it's to big"), guess it grew after he bought it. A lot of people selling tractors they no nothing about, just trying to flip it to make a buck.
That part doesn't bother me. But,when I drive 100 miles to look at a tractor that isn't close to how the guy described it,or he tells me it's sold then relisted for a higher price I think they deserve whatever they get.
