Hard drive died

On July 8 my hard drive died. I wasn't able to get the computer into the repair shop till first thing Mon July 11 and just got it back a few minutes ago. A comedy of errors that went on and on, but now I'm back...

What happens is that this world just changes so fast and they want all of us to change to. I had a computer with Vista windows which did one up grade to windows 7 had to get a new one because even 7 was not any good any more for internet service.

Noticed you haven't been around lately....thought maybe you got washed away by all the rain that's been going by to the south of me.......lol

Go to Carbonite.com and sign up. The system backs up EVERYTHING. Not that expensive. It takes a week or two to download a really large file system with lots of photos and you must have high speed service. Many Several MB per second is a must. Your connection speeds will be slower till their system gets everything downloaded and after that it up dates as you use your computer.

I was told Mon that "since they were not busy, it'd be fixed right away". What does that mean? I thought every day last week I'd be back in business, but they did not communicate well. I think they do house calls for select wealthy clients so then I feel their other work suffers. Then they called and said it was ready except I never got a call. Then I got it back Fri afternoon, took it home, and it would not connect to my wifi. So I called them and they said bring it back in. So I raced back to Chelsea and got it there right before they closed at 6 PM, they said it would only take a minute to fix it. When I got there they asked me where my wifi antenna was. I was never asked to bring that along. So they're open Sat at 9 AM, I said I'd be there. I was there with the antenna at 9 AM and 20 mins later I had to leave for a prior appointment across town, so nothing got done till this morning. Also, just north of Chelsea, the hwy dept has decided to construct a traffic circle on M52 and Werkner rd. and has a 1 way light that jams up traffic at all times of the day. I have to go through this mess each way to the repair place. I'm nowhere near as mad as my wife.

Same here. I have two lap tops as backups. When the hard drive crapped out on those I was able to replace them, reinstall the operating system, and get them up running again. Save $70 on each one vs taking them to the computer doctor. Worst case scenario I also have my I phone..

I'm running Vista on this computer. Really is very little different from the XP on the previous computer. I've got another laptop with Windows 7. It works and behaves pretty much the same as either Vista or XP.

After all the runaround did they at least upgrade you to an SSD drive? Or was it an SSD already?

(quoted from post at 13:27:54 07/18/16) I've tried every windows since win3.1 I have an opinion of them all. Vista was bad. 7 was good. XP was great.

Ditto! I just had to replace a Win 7 with a Win 10. Win 10 is awful. I'm getting a Linux CD and loading that into the old one and hoping it will work and I may load it into this one. Far as I can see Win 10 is nothing but shopping, apps and Microsoft micro managment that takes something simple and makes it difficult. I don't need high tech, I need simple and reliable.
