OT:Lodging in SOO Locks Mich

Want to run up to Sault Ste Marie this coming weekend. Any Mich YT'ers know which place is clean? One thing I hate is getting a room only to find out its a dud. See a few good lookers on the web but sometimes pics are misleading.

afraid I don't know of any there but I do know it is become common practice around here to ask to see the room before you rent. Don't believe its a big event weekend there so you should be able to do a walk in without reservations if your comfortable with that. I have also heard of folks stopping to look at a room and then leaving to check competition then call back to make reservations for a cheaper rate. But I always ask to look at the room before I agree to the rental. Hope you have a good time at the locks. I have lived here 50 yrs and only been there 2 times.

it is the Skyline I have stayed at in. It is at the far end of town from the locks. It is right off the Highway from the business route. There is a restaurant up that a way also not real cheap but nothing is at the Soo.

You might want to check the Indian Casino on Shrunk Road. Its about the newest thing up there. Theirs allot of older motels there. Our son went to Lake State up there but that was about 15 years ago. I know we stayed in allot the motels up there when we would visit him and some are real dives and others were just ok. I would check out the comments on line regarding the motel you are thinking on. That's how we pick them when traveling and seem to have pretty good luck.
We will be up there at the Soo Locks Campground next weekend with our 5th wheel camper. We have gone up their for a week every summer since 2004 and just park right on the river in the campground and watch the freighters go by.

Wanting to be close to the locks, try either the Ojibway hotel, or the Locks View motel. Both right on Portage avenue right across from the locks. There's another motel along there, but can't think of the name right now. Boatnerd.com has an AIS ship locator link. Shows where the ships are and you can plan your day to be at the locks during their passage. You can also head down river about 2 miles to Clydes's drive in resturant for a burger. The adjacent county park gets you within spitting distance of passing boats. Also check out the Valley Camp museum ship, and take a Locks Tour boat trip.

The Ramada Inn is just south of the locks on Portage Ave. It is an old historical building, but everything is clean and in good repair. Short walk to the locks. I'm not sure about their rates as I was working at the locks and the company picked up the bill. Ron
