We're somebody now We're somebody now

Went to town yesterday and noticed they are remodeling the old office depot store and opening a Harbor Freight store.

This will make Harbor Freight 15 miles away rather than 50 miles away.
I might have to start shopping there more often for select tools and other items.

HF has some nice tools. If I buy a power tool I make two trips, one to buy it and one to return it. It's only 3 miles from my one place, so no big deal, just keep all receipts.

Harbor Freight tools are made out of the same stuff that Licorice is made from..It is a China outlet store, full of things that have a life span of "1" use...

I bought one of those 5 foot pipe wrenchs from them, used one of those %20 "SUPER CUPON", and it was only like $30 I think!?!? I only use it 3 or 4 times a year, and hasn't let me down yet. SnapOn wanted $479.....

When I first started farming, I went in there and bought 6 or 8 vise grips, and a couple sets of cresent wrenches. The wrenchs have held up well! Cut one down to have a stubby if needed. The vise grips SUCK though, SUCK... SUCK!!!!

I don't like buying tools from china any better than anyone else, but if it's cheap $hit from china it better be cheap. I don't like looking at an expensive american name like Dewalt or similar and see made in china. I bought a sds hammer drill from HF about 8 years ago and it has preformed well, even the bits. I just couldn't justify buying a real one like Hilti or Bosch.

We're enjoying one(sarcasm) a half mile from here. Opened Memorial Day weekend in a building with Farm and Home supply. I've been in it twice and left empty handed both times. Got a coupon for 25% off one item for the 4th of July sale. By the time I read everything I couldn't use it for it went in the trash. Also found out their big ,nice, and cheap tool boxes have no parts support. Friends son has had one for about a year. He bent a drawer slide and couldn't get a replacement. Tried to return the whole box and was told it only had a 90 day warranty. He said the store manager basically had the sucks to be you attitude.

We got a local REAL tool store that gets my business.

IF one uses them for what they are can,t beat it. I go in with a 20% coupon and always get their freebie . I would not try to make a living with their stuff but I bought an electric shop lift that get used ever now and then and so far it has served well. Can,t beat the free 25ft tape measures, have one everywhere. Like George say their retur policy is also pretty abundant here at out store.

you guys that bitc- about harbor fright are so funny.any Pittsburgh. hand tool they sell has a life time warranty. as to parts support on tool boxes that is BS ya going to the store you will not get what you need just log in or call the 800 number and order what you need have done it many of times most of the time parts are free. all places buy tools from over the pond.i will put HF wrenches and sockets, ratchets, barker bars, up against any thing from Sears. floor jacks for just about everyone are made in china and all made in the same factory the HF is the same as a Sears or one from tractor supply just different paint.all the engines, pumps and Gens. they sell are Honda look a likes and parts from a Honda fit the HF engine.changed my HF generator from gas to LP with and Honda conversion.

I found most tools are serviceable if you don't make a living with them. Adjustableopen end (cresent) and the vice grips no good like someone else mentioned. I bought a 4 inch grinder it has worked well for a lot of years. I use it a lot. With the store close to you now, you'er in tall cotton all right. Stan

I have bought HF stuff since the 1970s and have had few problems. Sockets and wrenches have been as good as I could ask. I built an entire 12x16 deck using Phillips bits and only went through half a dozen or so for hundreds of screws. I've only returned one thing, a flat bar for tire work. The end broke off, and the store gave me a new one without questions. I wish I had a HF store closer to me; the nearest is about 90 miles away. I'd be glad to trade the local Home Depot for a HF any day.

Better than nothing,, but not by much...hammers heads will splinter off and of course the handles are sub-par the bars bend easy,,and the wrenches are "sorta" the right size ...No ,not for me...

Agree

Why pay for a legacy name when it comes from the same place? The Corporations are riding old well known names while reaping huge profits due to cheap manufacturing in China. I try as much as possible not to support the scam.

Yes, this is true and brand names that we depended on are being used in a Black Market way,,slightly different spelling, colors and styles,, and our Government will do nothing to stop the Hoax..A while back Bendix was trying to get poorly made knock off brake pads stopped from being sold under their name, and couldn't get it stopped. There is no truth in advertising any more..

I have some HF tools. It is usually things I only need to use once and then never need again. I have had fairly good luck with their pry bars. They are not supper hard steel but I like them for when I am working on things that are crappy/dirty/corrosive. I do not have to worry if they rust up. I can wire brush them off and go again. Some of HF tools are junk. My son bought a 10 ton portapower. It only lasted through 3-4 time being used. He had the extended warranty on it and got it replaced an the replacement never worked the first time.

I forgot one big thing from HF. That is my motorcycle lift table. Push my bike on the platform, and pump it up to a good working height, since I can't squat anymore. Stan

(quoted from post at 07:23:16 07/17/16) Harbor Freight tools are made out of the same stuff that Licorice is made from..It is a China outlet store, full of things that have a life span of "1" use...

How does that work with their life time warranted tools?

hf stuff varys,i buy some things like rubber gloves.magnetic parts bowls, zip ties.i often buy cheep wrenches that are heated n bent to make special job wrenches for like taking the air compressor off an 855 cummins.my main tools are snapon, wright and fleet. most were bought in the early 70's when I worked for ihc

I needed to make a hole in my concrete foundation to bring in the lines for my central A/C. Went to a rental outfit and they wanted me to RENT an SDS drill for about $90 for the day, and to BUY the SDS bit for about another $90. HF store was right up the street. I bought an SDS drill that even came with the bit that I needed for about $60. I still have that drill and it still works perfectly.
Wrenches are every bit as good as Craftsman or any of the multitude of other lower end tool sellers like DuraLast, Kobalt, and the like.
Sockets are as good as any I have uses. I have a few sets that I use frequently for engine repair for "customers." They are every bit as good as S K Wayne, MAC, or Matco. Their swivel head ratchets do wear out a bit prematurely, but they cheerfully replace them.

Overall, you all can gripe as much as you want. HF is here to stay, and they will be here for a good long time after we are gone.
