Keeping the Family Involved

The other post going on about "goals for the collection" had me thinking about my collection. That was followed up by a conversation with my wife about a tractor parade tomorrow.
My family is still very young and while they like to be involved, they aren't old enough to fully participate yet. Thinks like setting up tractor displays at shows is boring to their attention span. Tractor parades don't always enable full family participation and they are left watching on the side lines. Tractor rides? Again, not unless a wagon is involved (don't have one yet).
So, how do you keep your family involved with your collection (granted, many of you may have older families by now)?

Except for my toy collecting when they were kids,I don't try to keep them involved. They have their own lives and interests. I don't expect them to be me all over again. They'll find their own things to occupy their time.

My wife goes with me to various events related to farming (and bluegrass music) but she could
actually care less, it is equivalent to when I take her to do the things she likes to do, I feign
interest and don't complain. When my children were young I thought they would all want to show
cattle like I did when I was a kid, wrong, although they all worked with livestock since they were
old enough they just were not interested in showing, both Sons own commercial cow herds today but
its strictly a business proposition. All my Grandchildren are babies right now and I hope that one
or more of them will want to show cattle but, if not, I will take part in whatever it is they like
to do and be glad for the time spent with them.

So how do you get your tractor/s to events
If you use a trailer you could get creative with it as a family and turn it into a float
That can be pulled by the tractor getting the whole family in the parade too
or pick up an axle and build a float with the family

I have a shed with several cars I used to show
when we met. She went with and was interested but
quickly tired of me talking with people about the
quirks of a carburetor or the best way to make
anodized parts look new. Lucky for her farming has
gotten so busy I don't show them anymore. We
drive them on nice says now. A friend is trying to get
me to bring a couple to a show and shine in a few
weeks. I might just brush a couple of the first place
winners off and go. My brother shares my affection
for old iron so we can talk grease. I don't want to
make the wifey. Then I would have to be roped into
a "shopping trip to the city". I'd rather unload a
manure spreader.

I'll add to that, "with a table fork at -20F"!

If you are just trying to include your wife and kids while the kids are young that's fine. I agree with the idea of using a trailer that hauled your tractor as a float.

But you will find that as they get older the kids are going to have their own ideas as far as interest and hobbies. We are after all our own selves.
