Sometimes it really pays to be cheap

Ford wanted 225 bucks for a seat belt assembly for my 04 escape, got one at pull a part for 8 bucks!!!

I have found many many good deals at the junk yard. If you want a seat belt that was not used look for a Clean one.

Bose speaker for Cadillac 9.99 at Pick a part. Same deal ,hundreds of dollars at dealer. Gotta love it . Although I'm too big to hang in a trunk with no spare tire and get back up out of that trunk wheel well.

Nice to have a pull-your-own-parts yard. The last one within reasonable driving distance closed several years ago when the wonderful owner died of cancer. Now, unless I want to drive an hour or more, I might as well buy new parts from a dealer when I look at what the yards charge to take it off for you.

Every time i try to find something for my car they don't have it. they did have a skin for my bumper they wanted somewhere around $100 i bought a new one for about $40.

What was wrong with yours ? just not working ?

Some in the Hondas that old are lifetime warranty and I think newer ones they may limit to 10 years ?

Did you happen to see if it was listed in your owners manual as to the warranty period on that part ? You could ask the dealer but even if it was covered they would not admit to it usually.

Reminds me of when my Ford Tempo developed leak in the vacuum system. I traced it down to the "tomato can" vacuum reservoir that Ford used. Dealer wanted $36 for a new can way back then. I told them to keep it. Went to the supermarket, compared cans and bought a can of tomato juice. I drained the can, drilled a hole in the end for a fitting and soldered the fitting in place. Entire repair cost me $1.50 - and it was still in the vehicle when I sold it.

Yes Honda's have lifetime warranties on the seat belts, how this works you take the car to a dealer UNLESS you agree to give them $100 to diagnose it they won't fix it (labor is expensive they must get paid for their diagnosis if it's not under warranty) While they have your car they check everything out ('cause labor's cheap right?) if you don't pay them have every little light bulb they want to replace fixed and buy the trans flush OR cooling flush they want to sell your seatbelt won't be covered under warranty. Honda dealers are real good at selling you stuff you don't need or want. I know we've been driving one for 26 years (296,000 miles) it doesn't go back to the dealer much, maybe that's why it still runs good.

wisbaker, I am a Honda lubber if all my customers drove them and maintained them by the book i would have very little to do....

They have a drain plug in the trans if its removed every now and again no flush needed and it may never give any transmission issues :)

Honda does not recommend the trans be flushed are does any flush machine manufacturer... It has a drain plug use it... :)

Back when I was trying to keep wheels under 4 kids, I spent a lot of my Saturdays in the wrecking yard getting parts. Had a great time, got some interesting parts, and saved some money.

I had a seat belt on a Taurus that was so rough in one spot that it actually wrecked several pieces of clothing before I got it replaced. The guy at the body shop bought a used one from a junk yard and put it in. No more problems.

Dog chewed two of them in a 94 F150 I had. It was not the law for mandatory use at the time, but it was soon to become law. I was looking around for two blue belts. Called several yards and they said they could not sell belts where the vehicle had been in an accident. Finally one of the yards I first called got a vehicle in with two red belts that I bought. They sent me the VIN of the vehicle they came from for my records. (Big deal)
