Hydraulic cylinder issue

I have a 1979 Ford 550 backhoe loader and the left outrigger cylinder will not stay in the up position. It will stay in any position I put it in with pressure in the down position. Why does this outrigger bleed off rapidly and the other one does not?

An Oring or seal in the cylinder is probably defective, or has a piece of junk under one side of it. When pressure is applied to lift the tractor the seal is in
full diameter stressed contact. When pulled up, the seal is probably held away from a mating surface by a flake of something, or just is too tired to seal
without pressure. Jim

Thank you Jim, I will take a look on the inside of the cylinder for and objects under the seal or bad packing.

Many cup style seals among others seal
better under pressure, my Deere 210 will
stay picked up on the stabilizers for
weeks, yet they will drift to the ground
overnight from there own weight.

I used to work with two technicians that printed Beaker and FUBAR on their own name tags.

You are correct. This is the handle that I was given in the navy as a sky diver. I had an 8 second malfunction on my first free fall jump that put the team in shock not knowing if I was able to get my chute to open. I still use it from time to time just to have a little fun with it. Thank you for your reply.
