We have been pretty dry here the last 3-4 weeks following a winter with very little snow. We got rain last night! A lot of it! Some areas as much as 4" maybe a bit more. Flash flood warnings are in effect until 9AM. WOW! To go from being that dry to flash flood warning in just an hour last night!

Was kinda cool though. About midnight I was still awake and went outside for a smoke (I don't smoke in the house). The lightning display was incredible! This was shorty before it actually started raining. It was so rapid that some part of the sky was constantly lite up and the thunder continually rumbled. I've never seen it like that before!

Central MN, Rick is on the western side, I'm on the eastern side. We got the same weather here too.

We had the continuous thunder here where I live about a month ago. I remember commenting to the wife that I had never heard that before. She said she had not either. Was rather strange but neat to listen to at the same time.

NE SD The lightning show last night was
something. Thunder literally rattled
the windows. A bit of hail then hard
rain for just a bit followed by a
softer rain. Only .30 inches for all
the hoopla but we'll take it since
we're so dry.
Supposed to be 102 today with 110 heat
index. Windy with gusts up to 37 mph.
That'll suck the .30 right back out of
the soil.

We have constant lightning here sometimes. Had it the other night. Sometimes it is when a tornado is nearby.

They are saying 3-4 inches for our area. Sorry you didn't get more. We have been so dry that the lake levels are down enough that some lakes are difficult to launch a boat in. I'll find out later how much they came up last night. I believe that were are on the extreme eastern tip of the draught area that's also affecting you.

Welcome to what I have be seeing for the past say 5 or so years. July in this area is one of the 2 driest month or should be but we have had well over 10 inches of rain so far in July. We had been behind for the year up till now. I still say some one has to be messing with the weather since it has been abnormal for the past say 5-10 years

(quoted from post at 09:42:54 07/10/16) You guys quit swearing at me. We have had about a 0.5 since mid May.

Hey we were pretty here too. Most lakes are low enough that it's difficult to launch a boat. This will be a "million dollar" rain for the area farmers. Last little bit we had didn't even cut the dust.

Your comment about the lightning reminded me of a night, years ago, driving home from work, after midnight, during a storm. It was very dark out, pouring down rain, wipers on high, but the lightning was so bright,I could hardly see during the flashes.I tried my sunglasses, but they were too dark for the brief moments of darkness before the flashes. Finally,I timed my eyes to blink at each flash. It was about an hour drive, and I did that most of the way home.It was some of the most brilliant lightning that I had ever seen.Mark

Weather guessers backed off big time. Talking 91 for a high now. 20% chance today and 50% tonight. I'd like to get that 1.5 (without hail) that you received and then some more. We've got cattle guys here already running short on pasture and calculating their hay shortages to get through winter if we don't get wet soon.

Yep sure looks like about 1AM we will be getting some more. I hope the rest of you who desperately need rain get it.

Rick

We got 1.5 last nite, only a bit of wind. 1.25 a couple of days ago, but the real kicker was Tues...70mph winds, some hail, and 2 inches in under a half hour. Mostly tree damage in the area, but my 50 foot auger went down..(was on 25 foot high wet bin)....virtually NO damage to it! Couldn"t believe it!

Rained here Friday and Saturday...and things are still green when they are usually brown this time of year. Sure is nice brush hogging without a cloud of dust following me....was chilly today with temps in the 60's....felt like October tonight.
