Cheap tools that are good!

Some I have found are the 88 cent screwdrivers at Lowes. I am an electrician, so I use the fire out of screwdrivers. I used to buy Klein, about $8 each or more. I have also had snap on, wiha, vaco, craftsman and others. These cheap ones hold up with the best. They just don't bend or round off, but also don't chip. The handles are black and red, no name tool. Check them out. What good buys have you found?

I shop for used name brand tools. Mostly Ebay and Craigs list to save gas and time but also swap meets and a few yard sales. Recent buys are a S-K 3/4 drive set in the old metal box that looks unused for $55 shipped to the house from Ebay, also a full set of USA made Crescent brand adjustable wrenches in excellent shape 4-6-8-10-12-15-18- 24" for $155 shipped.

A month or so ago I picked up a screw driver at tractor supply and it has 4 tips which is real handy and I payed less then a buck and a half for the 2 I got. Still kicking my self for not buying more of the knifes they had for $1.39 each and they where a good brand of knife to boot

When it comes to screwdrivers, my favorite are the 6 in ones with big handles, better grip. I also carry a complete set of craftsman in the truck. Never know when you need a very long one or a very skinny one. Workhorse are definitely the 6 in ones.

I've bought a bunch of Craftsman,Williams,Mac and Snapon tools at auctions for a lot lees than they sell junky wrenches for over the years.Just bought two tool boxes full of Craftsman wrenches a couple weeks ago at a sale averaged less than 50 cents a wrench.

quite a few years ago a local auto parts place had a bucket of screwdrivers on the counter for .19 each. bought several, the phillips did not last long but think I still have some of the straight bit ones. I have also bought some cheap end wrenches from Harbor Freight. carry them in tractor tool box where I suspect they may get lost.

I have ranted, raved, and cussed Chinese tools. Since I spent 30 years traveling 4 or 5 states, and my wife still travels tehe north part of the state, I have made it a habit to stop ant the junkiest flea markets, garage sales, etc and have gotten a good collection of American made tools.

But, I did break down and buy a Harbor Freight "cherry picker" about 10 years ago. Not fancy, but I had a motor hanging on it for over a year and it leaked down a little occasionally, but I just pumped it back up.

And yes, a year of not working on a motor is not unusual for me. :(

When I ran a service truck I used Klein cuz I could get them replaced easily at the parts stores when I stopped.
Seemed I was getting them replaced a lot. I pretty much gave up on Klein screwdrivers.
I switched to Proto, Kinda pricey but I have tools I bought 20 years ago that perform just like new.
