On the way to check the neighbor's tractor [link], I was called about a copperhead by her pool. Of course by the time I get there, the snake has moved under cement stairs. She won't go near the pool and the dogs are banished until a copperhead carcass is yielded up.

So, guys, how do I evict this little monster from under the cement in order to kill it? My only though is to pour ammonia down the various joints to see if I can drive it out. If I can't present a body, I'm not sure how this will end.

Down here in Texas the guys who catch rattlers to sell use a piece of pvc pipe, stick it down the hole, then pour a little gasoline in it. They remove the pipe and a few minutes later out comes the snakes.

Dad got bit by a copperhead and just put a soap and sugar poultice on it, never did go to the Dr.

The beagle I had growing up would go out into the woods and kill them and drag em home. The side of his head would swell up where he got bit and he'd sleep for 2 days. Then out he went for another one. Damn fine dog.

If the gap it went into is known, and or the remaining gaps can be blocked, make a wire trap. make a one foot square box from 1/2" grid hardware cloth. on one edge make a entry hole with the wires cut and bent inward so the snake must push through a little. The go in, they don.t get out. Position it so the snake can't go any other way, and put a brick on it. Use a pitch fork to handle the full cage. Jim

Hook a water hose to your water heater or washer outlet. Let the hot water run, he'll find a way out. But boy, will he be pist.

had a Beagle that got bit in the face. His head swelled up the size of a football & you could just barely see his eyes in there. Couple of days & he was good to go. Doesn't seem to bother'em like it does people.
