vet shoots down Eagle

That is one tough bird! To hang there 2 1/2 days then fall 70 feet, and still alive!

Seems it would have been easier for a climber to go up, tie off the limb and let him down...

Ya know, I wonder just how far a .22 LR REALLY would go...

The box says like 1 to 1/2 MILES....but I think considerably Less...I am thinking more like 600 to 800 yds..???

After 100 yds, that round is starting to fall down badly..and the real "usable" range is more like 80 Yds..

Great story with a great ending. A .22 doesn't cut much rope, probably hit it multiple times to get the thing cut. Of course I'm sure he was aiming high and away to avoid harming the eagle. Of course we don't know about the backstop, but I bet "Jason"did. As far as "good press" yeah its refreshing to hear see some good press, beats who's using who's bathroom. gobble

Well, if he is/was shooting upward, I would think sooner or later that bullet would stop, where gravity would take over, bringing it back down where it could only reach terminal velocity. Terminal velocity is 120 mph, or about 175 feet per second. A median range of 22 LR velocity is about 1,600 feet per second. So it probably wouldn't "hurt" anything, but might sting if it hit you, I would think anyway.

What makes you think there are 149 bullets that missed and flew over the hill.
The guy shot the branch out of the tree. In other words he cut the branch in two with bullets.

Lets look at it this way.
If you take a ax and cut down a tree.
You swung the ax 100 times to cut down this tree.
Does that mean you missed the tree 99 times?

We would have no clue how many bullets struck the tree, and how many passed by, but an axe blade does not travel several thousand feet.

It was said somewhat jokingly but that is a lot of rounds to fire up in the air as they do travel a good ways

We have tried cutting rope at CAS matches (trying to imitate horse opera hanging scenes)and the stinking rope will dodge sideways with anything but a perfect dead center hit. At least the rope we used did anyway. We fired over 100 rounds at that rope and never did succeed in completely severing the rope. I've cut tree branches in two with a rifle also and it is much easier to do than trying to cut a rope.

did something like that once. Killed a squirrel in a Hickory tree with a .22 & it lodged on the main trunk at a branch the thickness of your little finger. Took 17 shots to cut that branch. Hickory is stringy & tough & it didn't fall til the last thread had been shot through. Telling buddy about my save & he thought I was daft for wasting that much money for shells on a measly squirrel. Told'm I didn't want to waste the meat, & pride was involved.
