O.T. Bicycle Riding

Would it be possible to learn to coast a bicycle rolling backward ? I know the steering geometry is all wrong.

Simple answer is yes it can be done and has been done by many but it is not an easy thing to learn how to do. Shoot they even have bikes out now where you can pedal forward or backwards

Yes. We had a bike with a locked up coaster brake that could be ridden backwards sitting on the handle bars. It took a few hours to "learn" how, and was never more than a I can do it thing. Jim

As kids, we used to sit on handle bars and ride the bike forward while facing backwards. Not sure why you would want to coast backwards. Never done it. geo

Kids do not need a reason! Dumbest kid in school could sit on seat and ride forward but I wondered about coasting backward. At the concrete plant kids wanted to ride the conveyor belts standing still but the belt had to move from front to back

50 yrs ago, a wild & crazy farmer friend who loved us kids took a welder & torch to an old bike. He flipped it end for end - so that you pedaled the front wheel - and then remounted the handlebar above this new "front" wheel with some linkage to the back wheel for steering. But he also intentionally crossed the linkage so that the steering was reversed...turn right, go left. Like a reversed forklift, except that trying to pedal, lean, and steer at the same time sent all sorts of crossed signals to the brain. Lots of crashes & laughs. One kid got it mastered for about hundred ft. Good times, simple fun.

Geo,
I also used to ride a bicycle sitting on the handlebars when I was a kid.
I have done it many times since to "show-off" in front of the kids...and later the grandkids. It has probably been 5 or 6 years since I've done it and having just turned 75, it would probably not be wise to do it again! LOL

Don't think so, the conventional [ Campagnolo ] rear ratchet in the rear wheel will only free-wheel going forward, otherwise it wouldn't work at all.
