John Deere 1520 point gap

I need to replace points on a John Deere 1520 utility tractor and was wandering if anyone knows what they are. The reason is when you pull the throttle open he starts missing and dies way Down and you can't keep going withput downshifting out of eighth.

You might start with a feeler gauge, but check your work with a dwell meter. They much more accurate.

No do you gave to pull that off. The
tractor has sat in a shed for about 6
years and as far as we know we never
changed the points and that's why I
thought that's the problem

Joseph,
The carb. on my 1520 is a constant pain! :)

I've got the Pertronix electronic ignition & mine will not throttle up smoothly if that high-idle screw is not set correctly. Out is rich, in is lean? Don't get it too lean though.

It's also always a crapshoot starting the dang thing hot or cold: some choke, some throttle; full choke, no throttle; full throttle, full cussin'; etc.

Same points gap as every other Delco distributer.

I am a carburator expert (people tell
me) and I have tested that carb under
all kinds of tests and the only problem
I could find that might be wrong is the
electric part.on the bottom of the carb
but the engine is getting good gas air
mix all the time. I really believe it
is on the spark side
