535 vs 566 opinions on them

Looking for a belt roller the two mentioned are in my price range some 567 are cheap enough would like to hear good and bad things about 535 566 which would be the best too have

Go with a 567. Much better pickup then the other two that will
work in more hay and straw conditions such as rotary straw.
The 535 is a good baler too but the 566 has sort of poor
reputation.

And I thought 466 with feeder forks were the only JD rd balers since the models 410 & 510 that had a bad reputation. Feeder forks on 466 were not one of JD engineers good shining moments. On the other JD 467 is the best JD rd balers I've owned.

I've got a 435 that is basically the same baler and the 535 just a foot narrower. Mine has been trouble free other than a sprocket and a couple of bearings. But it is always in the shed when not in use. The 66 series balers had a bad reputation around here but I don't really know why. The pickup on the newer balers seems to be a big improvement.

What the others said. 567 would be best. But, if you see a 535 cheap, they are good too. 1996 is the last year they were made, and they had an updated better green pickup that last year. Easy to work on, reliable, and with the green pickup they bale thick windrows well.

I do not know where the "bad" reputation on the JD 566 baler came from. They where rock solid around here. Find a JD 566 with the MEGA pickup. NOT the MEGA WIDE just the plain Mega pickup. It has heavier teeth and drives over the regular pickup. The JD 566 over he JD 535 is mainly the mesh wrap system and monitor. The JD 535 is a mechanical/hydraulic system. The JD 566 is electric with actuators. If you do not switch from twine to mesh or change bale size much then the JD 535 would be fine IF you can find a good one. They are getting older. The JD 566 has a much better monitor if your changing bale size and switching from mesh to twine often.

We do custom baling so we put a lot of bale through a baler. The JD 535 balers took some playing with to get the right amount of mesh on when you switched from twine to mesh. Also in the fall they would put more mesh on in the mornings and less on after the oil warmed up. So we had to adjust them during the day. The JD 566 you can set the wraps you want and it will constantly apply that amount of mess wrap.

It would be hard for me to go back to the JD 35 series balers. The heavier pickup and better monitor just make baling so much easier.

I don't doubt what you say, but 566 had a bad reputation here too. I also don't know why. I have a couple neighbors that bale their own, custom bale, buy/sell etc. and trade balers at about 15,000 bales. I just recall them saying "not the best", and the one said he traded it early. Not much to go by but I heard it more than once.

Just run a poll over at NewAgtalk. One good baler out of 5 doesn't make that series have a good reputation. Heck my neighbor runs a JD 100 that he bought new. Its been a great baler for him and we've had him do some work for us. But they were not a good baler for most people and have an awful reputation. So there you go. I still say stick with a 535 which is the 4020 of JD round balers or go with a 567.
