I have a cherry tree that has a cherry maggot infestation. I didn't notice it last year but it is horrible this year. I am planning on using malathion but I cannot find how long I should wait to pick after spraying them. It's too late for this year's crop but if I hit it now and then next spring several times I hope to get it under control. Worst part is that I bought and planted 2 more cherry trees this year so I want to get a handle on it before I actually get cherries on the new trees in a couple years.

I've thought about the net bags that you put over the whole tree but I'm too cheap to want to spend $150/tree. Sounds like there are some other more organic products that I may move to if I can really knocr them down with an insecticide.

Every pesticide has a label that outlines what you are allowed to use it on and all the post harvest intervals are spelled out.

If you buy the chemical, it should come with the label (which could be 60 pages....) if not, go online and get it from the maker.

How many times have you sprayed it since full bloom? I alternate between an all purpose spray and Sevin products on all of my 35 fruit trees. And spray every 12 days.
