What's it called?

Friend wants to weld a chain hook to the front loader bucket but doesn't know what to call the hook that has a piece of flat metal attached so it can be welded to the bucket.

Usually called a weldable or weld-on hook, just like you'd suspect. Link is the first thing that came up on Amazon, but I think this is what he's looking for.
weldable hook

Found a pair of cheaper G70 3/8 hooks on ebay for $16 free shipping, many thanks to all. geo

Yup--can't say as I blame him--sat up pretty straight in my chair when I saw it myself! I'm sure Amazon tweaks their search listings so the most expensive (or most profitable to them) comes up first. The intent was simply to give him a search term to work with, not a specific recommendation, as I'm sure you gathered, and I'm glad he found something more in his price range.

Both of my loaders have cheap(?) clevis grab hooks welded on them. The Ford has been stressed many times and they aint broke yet. How big is his loader? 100 HP? or more like a 40 to 60 HP?

I have brought a boat load of stuff off Amazon and was a happy camper,,, since they tricked me into a prime membership I can buy local are elsewhere cheaper...

I think you are right they have made it harder to find a real deal

I just buy 3/8 inch hooks at the local hardware store and either grind the backside flat or cut them with the chop saw. I weld 3 hooks on every bucket I have...one centered, other 2 near the ends of the bucket.

You wouldn't want one of those $267 hooks anyway. most of the time you're using a 5/16" or 3/8" chain and you want something that will positively catch the chain.

I swear I've seen them available locally, at TSC or Runnings or a machinery dealer.
