OT: Another reason to avoid Windows 10

Some here have probably heard about a site called "LinkedIn", it claims to be a social network for business people, although it's mostly an online resume site for headhunters.

Microsoft just bought LinkedIn for an absurd amount. their intent is to spy on whatever you're doing with your computer at the moment and force feed you job applicants who they think you might want to hire.

I don't know how this is legal, or how Microsoft thinks they will stay in business by pulling this kind of stunt.

Assume nothing you do on line is private. Do an Amazon search for some obscure truck part. For the next 3 weeks every pop up ad on every web site you read will be an ad from Amazon for that part. It is impossible to be secure on line.

Install AdBlock and FlashBlock in your browser, I wouldn't be without them. Also set your browser to clear the cache, browsing history, and delete all cookies when you close it.

Still no guarantee of privacy but it cleans up most of the annoyances.

"I turned off all the spy stuff when I installed Windows 10. "

HOW do you know that, old bc?

Been back from NY City less than 24 hours and already there's a message on my e-mail about all the wonderful things to see in NY City. My daughter booked the trip under her married name and I'm still getting crap on MY computer. That is downright scary.

I still love using my computers with Windows 10.

I do not use Edge or IE. I use both Firefox and Chrome.

Often I do my computer stuff in Stealth or Incognito mode.

In both browsers, look up in the top right corner. On mine there are 3 horizontal lines. Click on that and go to a new incognito window.

I use that perk when searching for low cost flights via Google Flights.

Using the computer is like many things in life. Use competing systems to get the job done. Windows as the operating system, Firefox as the browser and Google as the search engine.

Sort of like working with tools, use the best extension cord, use the best hand drill and use the best drill bits to get the job done. They don't and shouldn't be made by the same company.

My $0.03... increased due to inflation.

I guess I am way behind the times at home. I'm still running XP and like it. At work we use newer operating systems. I think mine is running 8.1 Pro. Works ok. No complaints. IT takes care of all that stuff and upgrades as needed usually at night when we are not using them.

Well I turned all of it off I could see. I think it is very
difficult to stop it all on today's systems.

Same here , running Windows XP that has not been supported since April 2014. It's the best running computer of our four windows machines .
