I found something enjoyable about 17-year cicadas.

We've been making hay all week, and I've actually enjoyed watching them land, for a second or so, on the mufflers of the various tractors I've been on.

I caught a photo of this cada that died while moting

When we were kids, we'd catch them and stick a wheat straw up his hind end and turn him loose. He'd fly straight up as far as you could see him. The old timers said he'd fly all the way to the sun, and of course, we believed them. After we got around the bigger guys, they'd stick a straight pin through a cigarette paper, then stick the pin up his rear end. You could see the cigarette paper a lot better than the wheat straw. It would turn into a tiny white dot in the sky, then disappear. There's probably a special punishment waiting for me someday.

I was working in the Hodges S.C .area a couples years back and they had a mass hatch off or out break of them,i had never before or since heard that many at one it would almost get on your nerves if things were quiet.
