I have a new tractor best friend (pics)

I took this rim and hood to a local sandblaster.
I wish I had before pictures of the hood.
It was on a tractor that burnt and then it sat outside
in the elements/snow for two years. It was ROUGH.
They came back looking like this. For $25.

That's bare metal in the pictures but I primed them
right after I took the pictures so they wouldn't rust.
I think he'll be getting a lot more work and I'll be saving
sandpaper, electricity, wear and tear on my arms, etc.

It is a nice rim Dean. One of the pair I had for sale.
I'm going to put a new tire on it and put it on my 960.
Then I'll take him the rim I take off. (bad tire on that one)

If you found a good guy to do it look after him. I got a tractor here for a customer I'm working on . He told me to take the wheels and weights to his
blaster buddy. They used way to coarse material, it took ages to try smooth the surface they left. I could of done it better with a wire wheel and
sand paper in less time. I thought blasting would do me a favor, nope it was a total headache of a bad experience for a first time trying it.

Coupla years ago, a local fellow charged me $40 just to do one rear rim from my D19 Allis. I think you got a bargain.

Sandblasting rims is not a problem but be VERY careful when getting tinwork sandblasted. Your guy appears to know what he's doing. There are sandblasters and then there are sandblasters, all are not created equal. I knew that blasting can warp tin but a so-called expert guaranteed he would just "dust" them and not to worry. Unfortunately he ruined a rear set of fenders, I suspect one of the less experienced shop hands did it. A lot of heat is created when blasting and if a guy is not careful or experienced, you can get disastrous results. And the resulting mess is impossible to straighten out afterwards unless you want to use a gallon of body filler.

That is too reasonable. My work place charges 100.00 hr plus sand. Have 185 cfm compresser,3 sack pot,Thats 100# sacks plus air supplied hood.

Royse:

Notice anything wrong with your third picture (the one with the hood).

Picture shows a Yellow cabinet labled "FLAMMABLE" "Keep Fire Away" , and what do you have right next to it . . . a Grinder that throws HOT
metal SPARKS. OOPS!

:>(

Good eye Doc!
The grinder is actually mounted on an old truck rim.
I just tilt it a bit and roll it where ever it is out of my way
at the time. Saves me a lot of headaches that way.
