century farm item

what is this thing? the family is clearing out their century farm, and lots of stuff is being found that hasnt been seen in many decades, they came across this, ive seen something like it but i cant remember where, or what it was for, anybody know? its very old,

pic doesnt show it, but the center of the upper portion has a slot in it all the way up and down

I agree with window weight too but the upper part is different than the weights I've seen.

Yep - looks like a sash weight

Our old farm house had similar sash weights. Every once in a while the rope inside would break, and the window would hang crooked and you would have to pull out a molding piece on the inside to replace the rope. I have one of those weights in the shop and its only good for a small anchor.

It's on the order of a window weight but the part above your hand looks different than any I've seen
