Ariens GT16-valve repair-help please

Mow Master

New User
Hey, I'm working on a GT16 Ariens and have come to learn that they no longer manufacturer the 031170 control valve, which is leaking and need of replacement. I haven't found the valve on Ebay or Amazon.

Anyway, I was just wondering if someone would be able to look at the uploaded pictures and tell me the rough type of valve it is so I can search for an off the shelf replacement?

Basically, there are six (I believe) hydraulic lines... supports driving forward and backwards as well as a hydraulic lift on the rear for raising and lowering a plow.

I would appreciate any help you may provide.

Here's an expired Ebay posting of the part for picture reference.

Hi Steve,

You make a good point. I have not checked the O rings. The manufacturer did tell me that at one time there was an O ring replacement kit made by OMCO with a repair kit # 5900-1-0681. However, a Google search wouldn't retrieve any info on the kit.

Do you know... are O ring kits universal or part specific?

Much thanks!

Most good automotive stores can match you up with the correct sized O rings. Very few manufacturers had o rings a specific size only to a particular machine until you get into bigger more expensive equipment. I think Wheel Horse was the big exception to that rule. Most of their bearings and seals were odd sizes way back when....

I had an Ariens S-16H with a badly leaking valve and had a local hydraulic shop fix it up as good
as new. Wouldn't be the same exact valve you're talking about since mine only did the lift
function but the principles are the same. It is quite unlikely that anything is actually wrong
with it except for the seals and any good hydraulic place should be able to handle that.

Great point Brendon! I actually had not considered a hydraulic shop, but there is one not too far away. Wonderful insight! Thank you.
