crank repaire?

Where in lower Michigan or nearby can build up and grind a a crank's thrust surface. It seems all the old places I knew of stopped welding cranks up.

I called him and he said he has done this before. I think his business is Al's Motor shop.
 
Is this a gas or diesel crank? The procedure is different! Have you checked an AERA directory? Do you want to go to Northwest Ohio or Ft Wayne?
 
be sure who ever does it will guarantee his work,some of the perkins crank surfaces are so hard not just any machine can grind it,it took 3 different machines before a 236 crank came out right, I though I had goofed up and should've just had it polished, it would have still been within tolerance, the last machinist had run into what was happening before and carried it to a neighboring shop with a different style machine to have it ground and it came out perfect, it's still use 28 years latter.
 
Now I am not the smartest duck in the pond but you have to tell me why or what is different. I have had hundreds of both diesel and gas welded up over the years and yes different cranks take different process but as far as diesel vs. gas what is the reason for different process?
 
When I worked at Dana in the machine shop we had a Gleason crank welder and for the diesel cranks there was different wire used and there were spools for the different kind of wire on the machine. When I asked about Northwest Ohio I was thinking of Hsrts.
 
I am not used to 3 cylinder Perkins but on the 6 cylinder 354 cubic inch Perkins there are probably close to 100 different crankshaft forging numbers. Some of these crankshafts have special finishes and it is not practical to have them welded. So you have a forging number? Application for the engine. Perkins used to have a little book for procedures on reconditioning Perkins cranks.
