OT - Mirrors on the outside of a house

This stone house was built in 1902.
Above each second story window a mirror is inlaid.
One window has a round mirror and the other a trapezoid.
They are round and trapezoid on each side of the house,
so not an accident.
Anyone know the story behind them?
I assume superstition of the period but I'm curious.

Well if it was lower,I'd say it was to distract you with your own reflection so you didn't look inside. lol

No Harry, but I live just a couple miles West of Palo!
The house is actually in Crystal.

That would sure work for my granddaughter Randy!
She can't pass a mirror without "prissing" in it! lol

For the same reason as a shiny "horse brass" is placed in the middle of the forehead of a driving horse bridle--it reflects/prevents evil spirits from entering??? That's been the belief of people who make/use harness bridles on driving horses for hundreds and hundreds of years and who continue to make/use the horse brass as a part of the driving bridle today. kelly

Thanks John, I looked it up and this is kind of what I was thinking.
Vastu forbids the use of round or oval mirrors as I read, so
it would be slightly different but that was the kind of superstition
I suspected was behind them to begin with.
