Quick trip to Kansas

Left at 5am Friday morning, headed to Hutchinson, Ks. Stopped in West Mineral, KS and saw Big Brutus. Very impressive piece of machinery. Toured Strataca Salt Mine Mueseum that afternoon, enjoyed the tour very much. This morning went to the Cosmosphere Space Mueseum, that place is as close to a Smithsonian experience as one could imagine. On the way back home stopped at Ft. Scott and saw the fort. What a great day to be traveling, saw some beautiful countryside on the way home. Everyone have a safe holiday weekend, and I am glad to be home.
 
My oldest brother and folks still live in Hutch. We
farmed north of town and west to Larned. I make it
back a couple of times a year when things are
quieter on my farm. As a kid we went to the
cosmosphere many times. I never realized what a
great experience other folks were missing until I
was older. I hope you stayed for an IMAX show. It is
one of the originals with a circular dome and an
awesome experience.
 
Sounds like a fun trip. I've never been to Big Brutus but would
like to see that sometime. You're right about the Cosmosphere -
that is an impressive museum and there's stuff displayed there you
may not expect to find in Kansas.
 
Heres a picture of Big Brutus taken May 14th....I was tractor pulling in West Mineral that day and circled by to
show a friend that had never seen it..

My Mom and Dad grew up on farms in central Kansas...I live 27 miles from Ft Scott and have toured the old fort
several times..Despite what lots think,theres plenty to see and do in Kansas..

We used to be able to walk up to the top of the boom.
I hear you can't now. Somebody might air sick or something.
