John Deere 2320/mower question

I recently purchased a 2320. Yesterday I mounted the mower for the first time. My question is about the knob located on the floor that's suppose to adjust the mower height.

So far I am only able to adjust the height with the same lever that controls the loader
which is also currently attached. When I use this lever and raise the mower deck to the highest position, the mower deck then gradually lowers on its own. I removed the yellow hydraulic hose used for the loader bucket and attached the other yellow hose to the same connection.

The knob turns, but doesn't adjust the mower height. The yellow circular guide that surrounds the knob telling me different height adjustments is loose and doesn't stay in one position, I spose the adhesive let go. What am I doing wrong???????????

I am not familiar with that model ,but JD has always had very good owners manuals in the past. I would of thought the loader and mower would work independently of each other ? But maybe not ? The loader should come off real easy. Did you get the manual with the machine ? I'm betting the correct answers are in there.

On my 2520 it have the mechanical lift which is controlled by the 3pt. Raising and lowering the mower deck also raises and lowers the 3pt. So mine is independent of the hydraulics. He has the hydraulic lift option on his which uses the outlets also used by the loader. I won't guarantee this because I don't have that on my tractor but I think the dial is supposed to control how low the deck goes down for how tall you want to mow your grass. It doesn't control the deck. The hydro lever raises and lowers the deck. I also think that it will lock the deck up in transport mode so you can unplug the hydro hose and use the loader. I'm not a fan of having the loader on while I'm mowing personally so I'd remove it. That's just my opinion though. You need to check out another forum called Greentractortalk.com. It's almost devoted to compact utility tractors.
