Texting while driving radar guns?

This morning on my way to work, a state trooper was in one of their usual spots in the median, watching the idiots stomp on their brakes, "Oh my God, it's a COP!"

As I passed by I got this sensation in my head like I've never felt before. A sort of "buzzing" that subsided as soon as I got past.

Doing a little research I ran across a bunch of news articles from a couple years ago that said a "texting while driving radar gun" was in development.

I wonder if that's what he was using. If so, it's going to cause more accidents than texting while driving because the sensation was INTENSE and distracting.

Maybe there's something wrong with me but I don't think so. It started as I got within the cop's scan range, got more intense the closer I got, and stopped immediately as I got past the car.

i HAVE many questions... what if you happen to be receiving an email automatically as most phones do?.. or your passenger is texting? Both will trip the texting gun. And both are perfectly legal. new cars are tied to the web side and do data dumps and updates while your driving.

I dont think this will hold up in court..

Navigation and mapping apps will also draw continuous data from the cell system while driving, and so far as I know, they also are legal.

Maybe some sore to device for blocking cell phones. in some countries they use them in theaters so there will be no disturbance to the guest from other people using their phones. Illegal in the U.S.

My brother was a weapons officer in the Air Force. Told me about a drone they were working on.Program it turn it loose and it would hunt on it's
own.Went down a list of things to look for. I thought he was nuts. Now that same drone is a common item. You never know what new toy is being
developed.

(quoted from post at 09:21:31 05/19/16) You need to wear a tinfoil hat!

X 2 on the tinfoil hat - and make sure you run a ground from the hat to the frame of the vehicle, just in case you get a stray voltage from the beam being sent into your vehicle.

That or a fairly large saucepan. Tinfoil allows a little bit more artistic expression in its creation but requires a lot of maintenance.

Wonder if something was coming through your audio system.

Especially on the newer vehicles, they have "noise dampening" features to block unwanted noises, like drive train howl, tire noise, engine rattles, etc., and to enhance sounds like a powerful muscle car exhaust instead of a V6 buzz! It's something you have no control over, done through the ECM.

Use commercial grade tin foil. Reynolds wrap #624 is very heavy and is used in commercial kitchens. Your local BJs will have it. Once you try this stuff the supermarket stuff is like tissue paper! Problem solved.

Try this the next time. Type, "Hey Cop, can you read this" and send it and if you get a response back, "I just did" and he pulls out and turns his lights on...it's true.

saw this in a movie....you are a deep mole and have now been activated.
Either that or you will now have a huge urge to buy a certain brand of soda :)

They might as well give up.....or it's just a money grab....we have had a no talking on cellphones when driving law here for quite some time.
It would be easier to count the cars without the driver on the phone than ones using a phone.

way of the world....I think if a modern person was running out of a burning building and their phone beeped...they would stop to answer/read it...lol

Don't know about that but the State Troopers have Radar Detector Detectors, they'll confiscate the detectors on the spot if its being used since its illegal to use one in
my state.

Speaking as a retired Trooper- no. I don't know what the sensation you had was caused by, but it wasn't anything to do with the Trooper. Consider that something so powerful that it would cause a physical sensation like you describe is going to cause all sorts of problems for the police vehicle and it's occupants. No one is going to install a "death ray" apparatus in a police car that will cause all sorts of physical sensations to passersby, accidents and resulting lawsuits. Also consider the power it would take to run something like that. Yes, there are radar systems in military aircraft that will allegedly microwave a hot dog, but they aren't running 12 volt/100 amp systems.

If the problem persists, see a doctor.

Oh I plan on getting my head checked if it happens again. Never felt anything like it before or since, and it was only while I was in the "firing line" of that trooper's car. Many well-respected people jump to conclusions on less.

I'm pretty tech savvy and realize how much power it would take, but it doesn't mean that it couldn't be a new type of detector that wasn't around when you were a trooper, in field trials, running out of spec. Maybe interfering with the sound system in my truck. As I said at the beginning, they were talking about "texting while driving" radar guns a couple years ago.

A radar unit sends out a radio wave and measures the time it takes for the bean to return to the antenna. A radar detector alerts to the radio waves on radar gun frequencies using a small antenna and oscillator of it's own. A radar detector detector uses the same idea to detect the emissions from the detector. A "texting detector" is going to follow the same idea for cell phone emissions. I don't know if voice and text use different frequencies, but it's possible. Either way, the wattage is going to be low. Consider that all police radars get plugged into the cigarette lighter in your car. Not a lot of amps or watts in play.
