Last car I'll buy......

Just bought this car yesterday.....2008 Ford Fusion. I know , I know, I am a diehard GM fan, but this one was too nice to let slip by. An elderly acquaintance decided to quit driving before he had an incident, and offered it for sale for $5000 CAN or about 3500 US less than 20000 miles and spotless. Couldn't let that pass. It is the last car I will buy for my kids.... the other two already have one from me and this one is for our youngest. When the kids were younger, they begged for an ATV or go cart or snowmachine or motorbike but I refused since I feel they are much too dangerous in the hands of a novice. I did counter offer by promising them a good car "...when you need it...." Now our youngest has a summer job, so dad had to live up to his word....but she is sure happy. Hope she keeps it rubber side down! Ben

Should be a good rig -- BIL bought one, I believe it's a '10. They have been very happy with it. Last I heard, theirs had over 60K on it. No problems with it so far.

We bought our oldest Daughter an '06 that was a trim level higher than yours. It was a decent car for her but something was screwed up with the brakes it would only go 25,00 miles or so before a caliper would hang up and she'd need the brakes done again, that and the 5 speed automatic had a real low first gear so if there was any hint of snow or ice it'd sit there and spin rather than pull away. I think it was a combination of the low first gear and drive by wire throttle. Anyway the daughter is now soured on Fords and after the Fusion got wrecked she drives a Subaru.

Looks like a nice car.You are a good dad to give your kids a car of their own. My boys didn't want to drive any of the cars I offered to buy for them , nice safe sedans . So I helped them get the truck they wanted, not that they needed a truck . Boys will be boys , sigh ... all three managed to write off a truck, but it was on their dime . And none of the three got hurt, and didn't hurt anyone else . Boys are a test of a man's nerves, they are 29 , 25 , and 23 now , and I hope a bit smarter.

Yeah, but my girls go out with boys like that.....it's no wonder all my hair or what's left of it, is grey! Ben

Our daughter and son in law have a fusion. They love it.
First time your daughter forgets to change that timing belt in the Subaru and it breaks she will wish she had the Fusion back.

I would have kept that for myself. I bought all of my kids a pickup when they were a senior in HS. When my youngest graduated HS gas prices were starting to get high and he couldn't afford the price. He was going to go to a state university but I told him if he would get his basics at the local community college I would buy him a better gas mileage car. I found a Ford Taurus that was low mileage. He put over 200K on it and it never did quit and he drove the heII out of it. He traded it for a Chevy when he got out of college and it is a POS.

Good find!
I have all Bowtie stuff and have forever. In 2008 we bought an '07 500 after doing "clean sheet" research and shopping. It has been excellent and very practical. It's the odd brand out of the fleet but after looking closely at the Impala it was obvious that the 500 was significantly better. We shopped other makes too.

In '10 though (after rebadging it as Taurus in '08) they messed up and made it too "sporty". What's wrong with building a plain and useful family car?

Do yourself a favor and start looking for how to replace the fuel pump. On my ford I modified the car body to change the fuel pump from under the back seat. I've got it down where I can change a pump in 30 minutes. Pumps only last about a year or two. I changed mine again last week and the previous one was installed 3/15/2015.

We're used to the timing belt thing as we've been trying to wear out an Accord for the last 25 years, we're now just shy of 300,000 miles and it still runs good and doesn't use much oil but the body is starting to dissolve, question is is it worth putting a timing belt in again? Well because of a water pump replacement about 50,000 ago I have another 50,00 to have the transmission go out (how it will probably die) or decide to replace the belt again. As for the Subaru- the oldest daughter is not real good at checking oil (or tire pressure) and it leaks a bit so she'll probably run it out of oil and kill it that way. She went off to college in Michigan and decided to stay after graduation, after a year she's back in school for a Master's degree and still in Michigan, since I'm in Iowa I don't have much opportunity to keep an eye on Subbie fluids and pressures, but one of my brothers kinda reminds her about it. Youngest daughter is in the Honda and so far she's done good with motor oil and tire pressure but I've found the power steering fluid low at the last oil change, but heck they've been night and day since they were born One bald an on a Monday, one with a full head of hair on a Friday, one an extrovert the other an introvert, one tall and thin, the other short and stocky, one blond the other brunette, one runs off to college in a big city and loves it, the other off to a small college in a town 1/3 the size of her sister's college, one bitches about having to drive the old Honda for a year, the other loves it and has pretty much let us know that's "her" car and she intends to drive it until her undergraduate degree is done.

(quoted from post at 18:26:13 05/14/16) 70% of GM vehicles are made outside the US.

i wonder where that fusion was built. i'm guessing mexico, since i know the 2009 fusions were.

My Daughter in law commuted with a 05 Taurus and put 278k on the v6 with no major engine or tranny troubles. They put 174k on it before changing the spark plugs. Neither one is too big on maintenance. Never replaced fuel pump. They bought a new fusion last year and it's been trouble free so far.

They are building cars in China and selling them to you. 70% of GM vehicles are made outside the US.

This just shows how gullible you are to believe this! Another BS story that only people like you will believe without doing any research for yourself! Show me one car that is built in china for the US market! You can't, because there aren't any! GM is NOT building cars in china for the US market! Do a little research before you post complete and utter BS!
