Carburetor repair?

So my Massey 135 starts and runs ok at an idle and even half throttle. Gets weird at full throttle. I took it apart to clean it and put a kit in it. There was evidence it had been apart before. It was not dirty and had no rust. The kit had two bowl gaskets and one of them had a bigger hole for the venturi. That is when I realized I had no venturi at all. It is a Zenith 13338 for the Perkins engine. Wonder if it got left out when the last guy cleaned it? It will run OK wide open if the choke is partly closed. Or could I have a carb that did not use a venturi?

Often wondered if one would run without a venturi... Didn't think it would!

Yes, it is supposed to have a venturi. Now the problem is finding one and knowing what size. Might try posting in the Massey Ferguson board. Someone might know or even have one.

You might try Ebay.

I once bought two rebuildable carbs for an H Farmall on Ebay for $85 for the pair.

Tractorcedric,,IF it was mine ,I would chek around for a new carburetor ..I have fought bad carbs a few times, rebuilt them and made little difference .. and when I finally replaced them it made the tractor a totally different better running tractor .AND yes,Steve they will run without venture and other parts too ,,.just not worth a hoot,.at least a DC CASE will,.I can tell ya serveral things that happened and survived and is still running strong today .. Planting away from home,,the carb , was getting plenty gas but had the hiccups,,. dad had me take the brass fitting under the jet out, cleaned out the crud, put it back , thought I had it threaded a turn or two,but durn thing fell on the dirt,. never could find it,.it was getting late ,gonna rain before morning we marked the spot. Started the DC and threaded the needle in a bunch finished the field with the DC and got the Ol Gent home ,.it ran rich at idle, next day after the rain went back and the brass was sitting rite on top the ground , during blizzard of 77, we had no electric for nearly a week . on the 3rd day,it warmed up to 10 below, and the wind let up.. nuthin would start here ,weak batteries, except my brothers 283 belair, but it was buried in snow . Pops 51 DC was hand crankt to life .. and pull started around the farm and neighborhood ,.I pulled up wood for everyone,. I noticed the DC was running rich at idle , flooding out,.we took it apart and found the carb floats had ruptured and collapsed from ice in the carb bowl,,. we soldered it up best we could, and put those crimpled floats back in.. i ran the DC like that a week, before the new floats came in ,. even made serveral tons of feed ,.ran great wide open.but I think the float was still filing with gas,so if I needed to idle a while I would close the valve at the sediment bulb to about a half turn.because there is so many varibles ,..I really like Zenith Carbs over marvel/schriebers

The 8n Fords have a Marvel Carb and they sell replacement Venturi for them . They fit a lot of different models . I could be wrong , but there are only a few sizes of those tsx carbs and what makes them different is the fuel inlet location , shaft levers , front or back inlet , etc . Most of the internals swap between large groups of numbers . I don't know which one you would need though .

I do have some 8n venturi on the shelf and can get you some dimensions .

Look on this site under > Ford > 8n > Fuel system .
