farm grants

I see there's these grants available for small starting farmers and I want to look into something like that I should go to the local fsa office? I'm in ohio

Here in Colo we start with NRCS. But any office of that type should get you pointed in the right direction. Good luck those grants will come and go, so don't give up.

Be real careful of all the "rules" involved with these grants. My oldest son used a grant program to help buy his first farm. He told them when he signed up that this farm was a "starter" place not where he was going to be permanently. The people told him it would not be a problem to "roll" the grant into the "newer" farm.

Well his "dream" farm came on the market four years after he had bought the first place. When he closed the sale on his farm the grant had to be paid back in full because he had not lived there for five years. It still was a better deal for him to buy the better farm.

So watch out for the fine print.

Consider looking at the Family Farm Defenders website.

It might give you some starting points. There are groups on Facebook that include Homesteading, and Homesteading Singles. Yep, you might need to get onto Facebook.
