What?! How Is This Fair?! ot rant.

So, I bought a brand new pair of work boots online from "shoe line . com". They are Carolina boots, and CAROLINA boot Co told me to buy them from Shoe Line. They are American Made, 2E size 16's, I paid $179.99, free shipping.

They get here, and out of the box I notice that there is a tiny little gap between the tread on the left boot, like it was seperating? Didn't think much of it, as the stitching isn't always RIGHT on the edge. Well, I wore them pretty consistently for 2 months, and they were just falling apart?! The heel was starting to tear all of the stitching in one of them, and the tread was getting worse and worse. I called shoe line about 3 weeks ago, and they just flat out didn't care. So I called Carolina, and I got a VERY nice, American woman, happy to talk and help, and she apologized, said that there had to be a fluke, because their return rate of these boots are so low (I agree, reputable brand in my opinion), but that I had to deal with ShoeLine.

SO, after several more calls with shoe line, some lady e-mails me a return ticket for UPS (free shipping) and a form to fill out saying why I didn't like them. I wrote on the form exactly what the issue was, and that I wanted an exchange for the exact same pair of boots.

Finally, this morning after waiting weeks, I get a generic e-mail from them saying that they no longer carry that size / style of shoe, are sorry for the inconvenience, and will be crediting my credit card the $179.99. I go onto shoe line, and they have the EXACT SAME BOOT, same everything, but it is $199.99.

I am going to call them shortly, because I think this is bs. Am I right?? I should have a new set of boots in the mail!! :

Should and will might be different. Discuss it with Carolina once more. They are ultimately in the mix because they put you in the position you are in by wholesale relations with Shoeline. Have them assist in making it work. Jim

I get the impression that you're still pretty young Bryce. As you gain knowledge and wisdom and experience with time, you will come to realize that life's not fair, period.

If they still have the boot, odds are it was just a snafu in the returns department. Since it took months for this whole thing to transpire, I would also attribute the price increase to normal annual price increases of everything across the board.

I really don't think they did all that to try to single you out and be mean to you. They may have made $10-$20 of profit off you, if you kept the boots. Not exactly a windfall. I highly doubt they sell that many pairs of that style of boot, and get that many returns, to make it worth their while to manipulate things to take advantage of a mass of people at once either.

Try being sweet and nice to the person on the phone, and you might just be able to talk them into sending you the boots at the old price.

Look at the bright side. You wore them for two months and it didn't cost you anything. If you could do that over and over, you'd never have to buy a new pair of boots again.

I'd be glad to get the full refund and then go elsewhere and buy some. Find a local shoe store. Could also be they just don't have your size anymore either but have other sizes left in stock so that is why the ad still runs.
I'm betting they are made in China too. Same place the $30.00 walmart boots are made and they last about the same time.

Take the money and run.......Go find another place to buy your boots, preferably a local businessman. Shopping online is great for those hard to find locally items. But as online shopping increases, main street shopping opportunities decreases. gobble

you're crying because you got your money back ?????? i'd be dancing all the way to nearest shoe store

The American Made sets of these boots have a no questions one year warranty as well. Carolina had NO problem with me sending them back, but the people I bought them from didn't like it!

We have a RedWing dealer, but they are 2 hours away, as are all of our shoe places. Besides that, around here NO ONE has a set of 16's sitting on the shelf. :/

I am going to say I have had nothing but trouble with Carolina in recent past and there dealers. Get your refund and move on!!!! Look at RW, whites, Wesco etc. Yes a shoe dealer where you can try them on is a good thing.

I know its a bunch of crap. But believe me that is a win. I deal with several large farm equipment companies and I get wrapped up in these deals from time to time. You wouldn't believe the crap they throw at you to try to get out of making things right. I call those people the paycheck collectors.

The last time they were trying to screw me out of an amount over two thousand dollars. I finally emailed the company president, that afternoon I got a call from the president himself and got two calls from the people giving me a hard time, both apologized.

Be careful, if you really demand the same style boots again they might send your old boots back and charge you $199.99 for them this time. A 100 percent refund is about all you can ask for. I would not risk getting another inferior pair of boots form the same vendor. As others have suggested, take your refund and buy a new pair of boots somewhere else.

If you have any shoe repair shops nearby, take your old boots to one of them. If the boots are good quality a repair shop can often resole a pair of boots for around $50 to $75.

I agree getting a full refund after you wore the boots for two months sounds like a win to me too. They could just as easily have said "Who are you"? and put a block on your emails.

"I would take the refund and go somewhere else and buy boots. "

I agree 100%

Bryce - you making any hay yet?

Good luck,
Bill

Bryce, my RW dealer is even further away, a couple times he didn't have my size in stock, but shipped them to me--never paid any shipping either. I have ordered boots and insoles occasionally from this dealer. (I do pay shipping if I phone order something- still cheaper than fuel to get there) He prefers a customer sees him regularly so he can check the fit. just my $.02 for what it's worth.

Bryce........iff'n yer really a size 16, the Army won't draft you and send you to the sandbox in the middle East. Their shoe sizes STOP at #14. They got my brother at #14 and they handcuffed an aluminum briefcase to his wrist and flew him all over VietNam. Look at it this way, put one of them RED rubber noses on, and hire out to the CIRCUS .......HTH, #12 Dell

You got a full refund after two months of use, you made out good what more do you want? Go buy another pair of boots with that money and move on. I guess I'm confused that you want more since the comparable new boot costs more?

HA! Half of the people up here haven't even put fertilizer on! We get one cutting, and everyone cuts on the 5th of July.

I'm not doing hay this year, but my Barley is up NICE! ;)

Hi Bryce
There is a saying round here about jumping in with ya boots on and making a Big splash kinda sounds like you with this deal. 20 something odd years more experience than you got, says with this deal quit while you are ahead. You got 2 months free use from the boots like others said. yeah its a pain but got your money back . If you don't like the company for what they are telling you don't buy again, it's pretty simple.

I got a $200 pair a boots here worn them 4 times, they got wet one day and the leather shrunk now I can't wear them or get them to stretch and stay so they fit. I got nothing coming back so my new boots will end up costing $400, I'm not happy but making far less splashes in the puddle than you are L.O.L.
Regards Robert

Don't feel bad the Red Wings I liked got discontinued and the replacement line cost 239 for the boots. Red wings are Cadillacs for the feet. Be polite to these people or you will get nowhere.

I've had very good experiences with Working Persons' Store for work boots. They have a truck that comes on site to fit safety shoes for our employees, and an amazing online catalog. They have replaced boots due to sizing issues for me, (but not after two months and inferior workmanship issues like you had).

If Echo made a composite safety boot that would be my first choice, lately I have switched to a Nautilus brand more like a tennis shoe- lighter than a full leather boot.

bellevilleshoe.com American made. I have never had an issue so I cannot comment on their customer service.

I am glad you have your money back. I would have thought they would have sent you new boots instead of a refund, but hey, you got your money back... That is kinda rare.

Aaron

Well with size 16 feet I'm surprised that lady didn't offer to bring you another set personally ! LOL. You know the old saying about the size of your feet don't you ?

Pick you battles.

Accept the credit and buy another pair somewhere else.

Life is not fair.

Dean

You can join with size 16 feet though. My brother wears size 16B. (no need to buy skies) The army sent him to an orthopedist who prescribed boots and low quarters for him and the army paid for over 25 years of uniform shoes for him even though, as an officer, he would normally have had to pay out of his own pocket. Just as I did for 30 years. I only wear an 11C.

This is going to happen to you over and over again during your lifetime 90% of the things we buy today are junk and not made to last, throwaway products. I'm glad you got your money back, now go somewhere else and buy a different pair of boots. I bought a pair of leather gloves from Ace Hardware they lasted me two weeks splitting firewood, full of holes! It's a sad thing but that's the socitey we live in today. ;)

Bryce, you got a good deal, 2 months use and your money back, go buy some RedWings.

You are to young to turn into a complainer.

How is it not fair? You got your money back. When you get to be an adult you will understand, life an't fair. :p

If you want a really good pair of boots, buy Westco's. At your size good boots are a must. Westco also rebuilds them when they are worn.

See link below:
Westco Boots

Sounds like you received your original cost of the Boots, with no rent for the time you used them?

Go purchase a new pair of boots at a different supplier.

+1 on the Redwings.

I have 3 pairs of work boots that I rotate through. If a pair gets wet they get to thoroughly dry out, and then re-oiled. When it's time to be re-healed or resoled I put those in the shop. Back in the day it was hard for me to maintain a single pair of boots like I should. My boots are at least 7-8 years old and rebuilt more times than I can remember.

Buy a pair of Redwings, when they get close to needing some work buy a second pair.

From a legal standpoint, you were "made whole again". That's the best that you can do in those situations, since you weren't physically injured in any way.

Just one of life's experiences; just be glad that you got the results that you did and move on to your next experience. You will other experiences later that won't turn out as good as this one did.

Be glad you got your money back! I would take it and go to a reputable shoe/boot store and buy a pair where you can look at feel and try on the boots. I wouldn't buy boots from a online dealer.
