salvage yards

What's everyone's take on buying implements from salvage yards? I know some of its there for a reason but I think there has to be times when families or what not inherit equipment and that's where it goes what do you all think?

Some yards deal in used machinery as well as 'parts'.As with any piece of 'used' equipment(cars too) you the buyer need to thoroughly examine any piece of used equipmant, regardless of it's scource. I wound have no reservations at all of buying from a 'salvage' yard, consignment auction....

Some yards will combine the parts from two or more salvaged tractors to make one good tractor. Parts from different years are combined and sometimes parts may be from different but similar models (i.e. M and 400). It works fine unless you are looking for an all original numbers matching collector tractor.

I wanted to buy 2 Case tractors from a bank on a repo deal.......We're going to sell them to a salvage company banker said. I said I'll salvage them, he said I wasn't a salvage company. I didn't get the tractors. I thought money was money, but not to this banker.

Tractor salvage dealers around here buy more running tractors than dead ones. They are at auctions bidding like everyone else. If they sell it as being good they usually heard it run before disassembling. Auto wrecking yards will sell you an engine or transmission with a 30 day warrany although they know nothing about it. If it knocks they replace it but you are out double labor.
