Any body else recall the excerpt from a John Deere fieldman speech poking light of International Harvester introduction of the Torque Amplifer. His point was John Deere had necessary torque by virtue of Long stroke engine. Of course soon after John Deere went with 6 cylinder higher rpm and shift on the go.

Local IH dealer demonstrated a 300 (or a 350. can't remember which anymore) on our farm one time and he was extolling the virtues of the TA. Pop, a died in the wool Oliver man, said "If the d@!&n thing had any power in the first place, you wouldn't need it"! Ironically, I can remember Pop saying one of the things he liked the least about his Farmall M was that it had a poor gear ratio selection and needed at least one more gear. But Pop didn't like the IH dealer anyway and he wouldn't have admitted it if he'd thought the TA was the greatest thing since sliced bread. (snicker)

and after John Deere built the power shift everybody else soon copied the idea . Kind of like closed center hydraulics or hydraulic filters that you didn't have to tear the tractor apart to change like a ford 5000

Post something off topic and somebody goes ballistic. "THIS IS A TRACTOR FORUM!".

Post something about tractors,"DON"T POST SOMETHING ABOUT TRACTORS!".

not just the 5000, but the 2-5 thousand.

when the X600 hit, you could get some external filters.. finally.

I have no idea of a color war or color bashing. Sorry you are mindless. What bothers you about ads and fielddays from the 1950 era??Simply thought it funney that a John Deere rep would use that term.

I think most anyone who used tractors at the time the TA came out will admit it was a handy device to have when doing any PTO job because it let you reduce your travel speed when needed while keeping the engine rpm's up without any interruption to maintain a constant speed in the PTO powered equipment the tractor was operating....And it gave you a good "pull away gear" when starting any heavy drawbar load using a higher speed driving gear. Look at how many other brands soon adapted a similar device in their tractors. The "independent drive" on pto,s and hydraulic systems was a wonderful concept too.....as were better suspended and cushioned operator seats.....Power steering, better lighting, etc., etc...... the list goes on and on......to what we have today.......tractors with just about every conceivable device and feature to make them more capable to do their job and comfortable to operate. As a guy who spent many hours on a F-12 on steel I think of that.
