International 660/560 just interested

Just been noticing recently that there seem to be lots of 660 and 560 Internationls coming up for sale. I had lways thought they were produced in fairly low numbers and not very reliable so had assumed most would be in the scrap yard by now. Are any of you guys still using them in the field or only parade tractors now?
Bill

I would not say that the 560's were terrible but just were not great. They also were in production at a time when manufacturers such as Deere came out with a row crop that could pull 4-16's in most soils and 5-16's in quite a few. Oliver had it's 1800 and Case had it's 930 before IH had the 806.

560s are pretty common not as many 660 out there. I can think of 3 560s within 30 miles of me that still are in farm use. Not bad old tractors if you can keep the engine starting.

I had a 660 diesel, that had spent it's first life pulling a pan, then went from junked to primary tillage. We never did have any transmission or rear end trouble and we pulled the living guts out of that thing. Lots of acres chisel plowing, pulling a big disk, with 23.1-26 tires loaded with fluid and wheel weights. I still miss that thing. It went to northern Delaware to be restored. Still had industrial yellow peeking out through the I H red.

When I was a kid there were (3) IH dealers in my county....Almost every large farm seemed to have a 560 Farmall on it as the main tractor so quite a few are still around..There were precious few 560-660 International wheatlands in my area but in central and western Kansas wheat country, they were far more plentiful..Quite a few have survived and most have lots of hours on them..

7-8 years ago there was a farm sale about 7 miles SE of me....You couldn't see his place from the road...He had both a 560-660 diesel wheatlands...I never knew that he had them..He had hauled them in from Kansas...A friend that I worked with for years said that his Dad has a 660 LP which is rare..

Don't know of any 560 Farmalls left around here. Never was any 560 or 660 Internationals around.

I still use the 560 gasser, TA delete, standard drawbar, that my dad bought.
Pulls the corn planter, haybine, and gets hooked to the manure spreader.
It is a 1962 model and I enjoy using it.
My brother had it and ran it into the ground.
Too much money in to it but it is a family tractor so money was not a concern.

Here is our 660. These were not common here in Illinois. This one came outta Iowa but I don't know where it originated from. There were quite a few Farmall 560s around here and the dealer is only 3 miles away. We have half a dozen 560s and a few 460s. They get used some around the farm moving machinery, running augers but mostly for plow days and tractor rides.

I grew up in Osage County, Kansas. In the very early 60's there were 4 IH dealers in the county. The farmer I worked for covered a lot of ground with a Super H, a 460, and a 560. Ron

Used to be a fair number of 560s around here but I haven't seen one in the field in years. Last couple I've seen were all on 5-10 acre hobby farms and only used in the winter with a loader for snow removal, and those seem to have disappeared the last few years to in favor of new compacts.

That"s a nice 660 and I really like those front weights, are they International ones?
I think I may have the only 660 in Scotland, when I was searching for one there seemed to more 560"s around. I did eventually locate two in Manitoba, the first deal fell through, the one I did get will need an engine overhall I think as it not a great running engine. There seems to be lots of companies on Ebay doing re-build kits so I guess I"ll need to pull it apart sometime.

Yeah Bill, those are factory slab weights. There are no 560 standards/wheatlands around here and we don't have one either. There are even less 660 gas and lp gas are really scarce number wise compared to the diesels. I have only seen a few gas and lp gas ones in person.

Brad

Hi Brad
So are those slab weights only for the 560/660 or do they fit other models? Think I saw an LP one for sale on here the other day.
Bill

They fit Farmall 504, 4/5/660 and 7/806. They came available (optional) with those models. The 06s would have been the early/first ones then came suitcase weights for them.
