Dixie Chopper w/ 1.6 Yanmar Dsl

Mower runs good for 30-35 minutes then stops as if shut off by switch. Changed fuel filter, drained fuel bowl, it does start back up after engine turns over a few times and will run for 3-4 minutes and shuts off again. Dose not act as starving for fuel, more like you shut something off. Annyone have any ideas? If fuel pump was getting hot and shutting off, it should act like its starving for fuel and loose power, it doesn't, just shuts off. it is a 2007 model. Is there an electric fuel shut off valve that might be shorting out? I do suspect something electrical but do not know much about anything this new. If it is a fuel shut off valve, does anyone know where it is located?

Those have safety switches, at least a seat switch, maybe more... Looking at a wiring diagram (not having a model #) I see a seat switch wired to a timer relay that controls the fuel shut off solenoid.

If you have a test light or volt meter, check for 12v at the fuel solenoid. If it's losing power there, it will shut down. Diagram also shows an electric fuel pump, same test.

A honda Rototiller did that to me. Finally replaced the sparkplug and it ran good after that. Who knew a sparkplug could cause so much fuss. I must have had the carburetor on and off 10 times.

. My Grasshopper with Kohler engine did the same thing. Assuming an electrical problem, I tugged at battery cables and detected some play in ground cable. Found out that all engine mounting bolts had loosened and bolt that connected ground cable to engine had lost its nut and the solid connection. Every time I hit bump or steer quickly, engine would cut out or die completely. Installed self locking nuts and solved mystery.

I had a ninety degree fitting in a fuel line on a Massey that would crud up every few years It would restrict the fuel flow and tractor would quit out of the blue. Although it would act like it was running out of fuel before it would finally quit. After a few minutes it would start back up and run ok for a while.

Steve, thanks for the info, the fuel pump is working, you can hear it when you turn the key on and feel it, it filled the fuel bowl when I drained it. I, too, think it has to be the fuel shut off solenoid, it's either getting hot and shutting off or losing power to it momentarily. I just have to find it and see what kind of power it's getting. It's raining "cats and dogs" down here today, mower shed is too far away for me to get out in this stuff today. I'll have to get at it tomorrow AM. Thanks again.

(quoted from post at 08:54:17 05/02/16) I don't think he has a spark plug problem in a diesel engine.

here you go 'thinking'!? :)
Is that even allowed on these forums?

Look at the fuel filter when trying to crank it up if you see air bubbles its not getting gas or enough. Take the pick up tube in the tank out and see if it has trash in it. That happen to me once on a mower that did that
