Kamotsu PC200L excavator again

So the guy who owns this still has problems. He installed the main power solenoid and he hooked up a small ground wire to the hot lead and now has nothing no alarms no sounds other then a little click sound when he turns the key off an on. Found one fuse blown but replaced it and that did nothing. Any idea as to what he may have done. I told him the new starter solenoid might be bad right out of the box but he doesn't listen to that.
Thanks

It's been awhile and I can't remember, but does it have the master solenoid switch that makes and breaks the ground wire, or some have it breaking the hot wire?

That said, if it breaks the ground, Komatsu is notorious for hiding diodes in the system that will keep it from starting. Too the computer reads voltage off the alternator and if it senses over like point something of a volt it won't let it start. Also the safety bar actuates a switch, which operates a relay, but that will keep it from starting also.

Don't feel bad about having issues with this machine. A couple of weeks back I spent nearly all day trying to get a PC160-7 to start. Before it was over I had both arm rests open, the cover off the control panel, and several panels off in other areas. What I ultimately found was a bad ground on about a 16ga wire that grounded a solenoid that necessitated having 3 or 4 other solenoid switches to make or break in order to energize it....In turn it energized the solenoid on the starter as well as another solenoid that energized the intake heater. In other words it took like 5 or 6 solenoids, as well as the computer to start that machine. My opinion, this goes beyond ridiculous, and becomes downright absurd.

That aside, as bad as I hate to say it, ya'll are just going to have to break down and call someone that know the layout of that particular machine. If I were closer I'd be happy to take a look at it, as the majority of them were wired close to the same. But close is the operable word as none I have seen are exactly like the generation before, or after. End result is tt's near impossible to know exactly what to tell you to check without being there to see it firsthand.

Wish I was closer. As much as I hate dealing with electrical problems, I hate having one and not being able to figure it out even more....LOL Seriously though you've got me curious as heck as to what the problem might be, and it's going to bug me until ya'll get it figured out.

When you do I guarantee it will be something simple.......but please let us know.

Had to work on a customer's Kamotsu a couple of weeks ago. Two way radio we had put in quit after a couple of months. Being 24v we had put in a voltage regulator behind the cab in the compartment in front of the engine compartment. We put it up high to protect it as much as possible. We had grounded it to the metal which we screwed the regulator to. Problem turned out we did not have a ground. No continuity to the neg terminal of the bat. Could not find a ground anywhere. Had to run a ground wire back to the battery compartment to a bolt on the master solenoid. Can't believe he didn't-hasn't more problems.

The guy it out of town for a while so I will not be working on it as such but will be down to his place in a day or 2 to take a hyd cylinder off a 580B case back hoe to have it rebuilt so will take a look and see which way the master is hooked up but I am pretty sure it is on the + side of the system. The problem started with the main starter solenoid the one mounted to the starter would click super fast and the starter would sort of try to spin it over and some times would even spin it over enough for it to start but not often. I could jumper the solenoid and get it started but of course the guy wanted it fixed so it did not take 2 people to start. I told him that is was likely that the new starter solenoid was likely to be be right out of the box but he will not believe that can happen. By the way this machine is wore out. Just to make a turn he has to use the boom to lift it up some or a track will come off

Never seen an excavator with the undercarriage that worn out. What he probably needs is to put in track adjuster seals to keep them tight. If the upper functions have power, but not so much at the tracks, then the center swivel needs to be resealed. I've seen machines where the swivel seals were literally gone. They would travel forward and backwards, but would only turn if you did like your saying. New seals and the machines would turn on a dime and give change.

On the starter situation, while he's gone, go ahead and pull the new starter and have it checked. It's stupid to keep looking for a problem....if one doesn't really exist. Based on what your saying, this would have been one of the first things I suggested, and would probably have told him to figure it out for himself, if he wouldn't let me pull it to check.

With I was closer and I'd be glad to help out.....but from here the best I can do is say, "Good luck".

This problem started after he had the starter rebuilt and had a new solenoid installed. When I put the starter back on which is a real pain it did what it is doing now but would at least start most of the time. I figure the new solenoid is where the problem is but he does not listen oh well it his $$
