Yamaha starter update

The new starter came for the Moto 4 today. I put it on and it stated right up. Still no idea what caused the old one to run backwards. I took it apart again yesterday in one last ditch effort. I put the other armature in the housing I'd used last and it wouldn't run at all.

I also have an old Moto 4 and co-incidentally the only problem I had was a few years ago when I had to replace the starter. It didn't go backward though. Thought you might be interested in the box I put on the back. It's a surplus Kennedy toolbox drawer I found in a local scrapyard. It's removable with a couple bolts.

Dang, I was looking forward to hearing what the problem was with the old one. Glad the new one worked though.

If you want to pay the postage,I'll send you all the pieces and you can see what you can do with it. lol

Sounds to me like the timing got thrown off - if the end can rotated in relation to the windings of the the can you can go reverse rotation - only takes a few degrees to do it.

Were the 2 long bolts loose?

I love me those Moto4/Trimoto/Timberwolf Yamahas!

No. I tried every possible combination of parts from two starters, with the exception of the end cap with the brushes in it. The plastic was melted in one cap,but like I said,I kept switching parts til I was blue in the face with the same results every time.

Was it welded on (the machine) or jump started? Just wondering if the magnetic polarity switched.
