424 pto problems

got a international 424 and trying to run a post auger but i got to shut it off to engage pto it runs fine and i can disengage it while running, does it have to have dual clutch one for drive and one for pto?

Yes, it should be a two stage clutch, but it could be out of adjustment or the pto clutch could be dragging.
Check the adjustment, you should be able to feel the second stage before the pedal is right down.
All the best with it,

Hi, DO NOT force the PTO lever to engage or the roll pin will shear off in the differential.
Make sure clutch is pedal adjusted properly, height to foot rest and free play. If that doesn't fix it then maybe you will have to adjust the finger height on the pressure plate.

ok ty i'll try that in the mourning should there be a different feel in the pedal as i push it when it goes in between the two stages? how do i adjust the pedal?

Oh, mate. Youre pushing the memory a bit! LOL
I seem to remember that you loosen the bolts that hold the pedal to the clutch shaft.
Pushing the pedal down, there should be no resistance for around half inch or inch of travel, then it should be hard until you get to around 2 inches from the footrest. Then it should be harder again and that feel is the pto clutch part of it.
Try that first. You may need to loosen off the bolts and twist the shaft to the right to decrease the freeplay to that half inch or so.
If no joy with it, have a look inside after taking off the tin plate underneath. You may be able to see if there are any worn or broken bolts that the thrust bearing pushes on.
Hopefully it may be just adjustments.
