Neighbor across the road pulled in with a new planter today, still had the labels on the tires. Like to see this guy come, he's got all IH and it all looks like new, he must polish all winter. He's got 2 or 3 more tractors like on the planter and one of those Steiger type tractors. Every body else around seems to have John Deere, must of seen a dozen of those big fold up JD planters go by this week, been a bunch of the big JD 4x4s dualed up pulling big soil finishers that take up most of the road, even seen a Cat on tracks flying past today. There's still a half section of corn standing to the east a couple hundred yards, don't know what's with that.

Sadly, around here, to the BTO's that setup would basically be just a garden planter.

Not yet, but I don't get around the countryside much, 'caus I'm always stuck at the shop with the broken junk of other guys!

Ya I know that feeling sure would be nice to make a living farming instead of farming and working and still not making a living

There is a miner just east of here with two JD 36 rows, behind JD track machines, sometimes you might catch em both in the same 80 when you pass by. I was kinda thinking it would be nice to upgrade the 1760 to a 16 row!

At least there are markers on it. I cant figure out how a person is supposed to rely on technology lol. If the technology isnt there because the satellite is down your planter is kind of worthless. I would figure they cant keep making equipment bigger and bigger because it would eventually break off on the outer ends but they have been able to so far....

How long does it take to fill that damn thing up? On our farm my dad had a 4 row JD planter and that took a little time now and then.

There's bigger planters than that coming down the road. We bought this place in 1989, been fun watching the progression of farm equipment since then, used to be Farmall Ms , 560s and so on. John Deere's were 3010s on up, lots of 4440s and a few Cases. One of my favorites was two 4840 JDs, both had chrome stacks and really sounded tuff driving past, haven't seen one in over 10 years and now one showed up a couple weeks ago, heard it coming, sounds mean, looks good. It's been past 4 or 5 times. But I can't believe how big every thing got in the last 5 or 6 years and everything looks new, and where are they going, some must have ground rented miles in every direction.

I'm of the mind that more "farmers" lost their a$$ over-spending on stuff they didn't need than by spending longer days in the saddle. gm

The link I put up was Deere's 54 row, 90 ft wide they say largest of rows...Deere's Db120 is 48 rows on 30 inches and 120 ft wide and needs at least 370 hp and 5 valves

I run a 12 row JD 1760. The baskets are only 3 bushel so I only run 30 acres or so without a fill. It's a huge annoyance. Luckily fields here are fairly small so I end up with about two fils a field. One is 110 acres so the cart comes with me for that one. The big boys have nurse wagons but I can't make that swing with 1000 acres.
