Providing electrical help

When I read these forums I see SO MANY requests for electrical help across the spectrum of forums. That got me to thinking that would it make sense to start a new forum heading about electrical help? Primarily for tractors, but actually for any vehicles that need help. There are forum headings for other topics so it seems resonable to make one for electrical. It may make it more easy for those who can provide the electrical help in that they don't need to search through all the forums to find and help fellow YTers. Personally I don't read all the forums so I might miss some entries where I could help. Thanks for considering this request.

I am a yt junkie, I read every new post on half a dozen forums, trouble is, I am just too dumb to make many relevant replies to the majority of the topics.

The idiosyncrasies of the different brands do have some overlap. Rather than a new forum, I could see a repository for great thinking, like John T's Diagnostics for Delco charging system analysis. Other oft repeated diagrams and information would be included, like how to find TDC, or Adjusting a TA. This would seem to cover several repeated searches, and be updatable. Jim

Ron,

You have my agreement, one of the most difficult things for people to deal with is the electrics/electronics (taking into account the modern retrofit ignitions). I have to help people offline pretty frequently.

We have a few requests for new forums and it will go on the list. I'll mention that adding forums is a pretty big deal, plus even after we add them, we always have to watch not adding a forum that may go dead after awhile. But this one sounds likely to be used daily.

Thanks,
Chris

I like it fine with the dedicated boards for the different makes and Tractor Talk/Tool Talk for anything else. I seldom check the paint, restoration and implement boards even though there are often interesting threads there. I doubt I'd pay much attention to an electrical board.

Ron, I have been here well over 15 years and have been known to comment on electrical questions (you don't say lol) and since so many of the same questions seem to get asked over and over and over I recorded and canned a few generic responses which I simply post when I see a related question, but often the poster/questioner may not bother to pull it up or work through it. They want a spoon fed direct short easy answer and not be bothered with learning. If Kim inserted an electrical forum sure Id check it out, but my suspicions is the poster/questioner would use the same old forums they are used to (Deere or IHC etc) so not sure it would be a huge success. I've found there to be a ton of mis information and old wives tales and even dangerous advice out there (moreso regarding 120/240 VAC then 12 VDC tractor electrical) from so many who "think" they know about electricity which I try my best to correct, although some seem to resent that or choose to argue their point (You know those my way or the highway types lol).

I would think that it may be easier for YT to add a heading ,over at the left column under "Research & Info" , called " F A Q " and under it could be sub-headings with electrical , steering , engine, or anything that gets asked often enough that some post answerers get perturbed about because I guess they just can't navigate on past.

The place to ask this sort of thing is on the "site comments" forum. Kim and Chris will give you direct answers to your inquiries there.

I'm an old electrician since from 1968. Had a wonderful career from it.
Maybe it's just me or a symptom of the trade, but I kinda think some of the questions asked are a bait.
I seldom diagnose a problem over the phone or internet. Have to see it first hand.
