Gravely Kohler

I have a gravely with a 12 HP Kohler engine. The engine only runs with it fully choked. I put a new carb on and a new plastic fuel pump. No change. I have been out of touch with fixing these tractors and would like any suggestions anyone can offer.

The intake system may have a vacuum leak. Carb gasket, or flange , or crack. If the intake valve guide is extreemely worn it will also be lean to run. jim

Check compression, 80 psi is good because of automatic compression release, can do a leakdown test as well, so long as the engine is not stopped with a valve open, either by the camshaft or the ACR.

Check point gap and try another condenser too.

Could be the gas line is stopped up part way somewhere.Also if you haven't done it you need an inline filter between the gas tank and the fuel pump.Also keep your gas tank over 1/2 full.

Had the same problem and discovered the exhaust screen clogged. Cleaned up and ran well.
