I have a john deere 210 mower deck that has just been repaired at welding shop. I need to put something on underside to prevent rust. Do I use primer & paint or undercoating. What works best. Thanks for any information.

i used por 15 rust converting primer. brush on 3 coats. its tough as nails. will last a couple mowing seasons.

I have not heard or read of anything that really stays put.
Best way is to scrape out the packed in grass after every use. Your deck will stay in good shape.

Boiled linseed oil. A component of oil based paint. Use a wire wheel in an L head grinder to remove as much rust a possible. Apply several coats of the linseed oil. Tough as nails and stops rust dead.

wgm, never heard of boiled linseed oil on metal, but did some research, and sure enough it comes highly recommended!

I'll have to remember to give it a try!
Thanks!

I'll second the graphite paint! It will still wear away near the blade ends, but the rest of the mower stays much easier scrape clean.

I put a hose fitting on the left hand top side, discharge is on the right side. After mowing hook up a garden hose and let the mower run for 10 minutes or until the water no longer comes out green. Cleans the deck real nice.

I have been using Modeck the last couple of years I got from Wally World. It seems to work pretty good.
