The first flower of spring here is usually the crocus. Although I did see a dandelion blooming yesterday just before I spotted this crocus. Out on the native prairie hill top today with my old Red River Special threshing machine in the background.

Where i live in northwest Iowa we are about 800 miles south of you, but this morning i picked the first asparagus of the season. Seems way early. It cut off like butter.

Thats a long way. And we are about a month away from finding any asparagus I think. Although it is looking like an early spring so maybe...
Here is the old thresher from the opposite side last fall.

All the fruit trees are in bloom and the alfalfa is almost a foot tall here.....way ahead of normal!

I picked mine this morning too, Sunday it was an inch tall but the heat yesterday really perked it up.

So sad it isn't under cover. I know, I want to save everything. People just throw everything away and I dumpster dive some to take home.

That's how we knew spring had arrived on dad's farm in northern ND. Dad would go to the pasture and look for crocuses. Sometimes we made a family outing of it, take off after we got home from church and go pick crocuses. Sounds corny, but boy, those were good old days.

I'm the same way. Save all I can and cover all I have room for. Most around here sent their threshing machines away to be cut up for scrap iron. I have two that belonged to my grandfathers so they are a bit of family history that I value.
