I was working today at a plant that makes hydrostatic transmissions, big and small, for several manufacturers. We are upgrading the controls which move the line and track the assembly operation. I really try to concentrate, but it is really neat seeing all the things being made. This line is for the assembly of the pumps, they are nine cylinder. I learned today that all swash plate pumps have an odd number of pistons, because an even number can get hydraulically stuck.

Never thought about. Years ago I worked at a re-draw plant that had a hydraulic drawbench. It had a five cylinder radial motor fed by two huge two stage pumps. I forget the HP for the pump motors but it was well into the double digits...40? 50?
