why won't engine oil turn black??

On most that means the engine is very clean inside so very little to make it turn black. When I change the oil in my W Speed patrol it will say a good color for a very long time but it was an engine on it that has few hours on it

Are you using an engine oil designed for a diesel engine? How many hrs do you operate engine between oil changes? On my JD 4255 I've changed engine oil @ 250 engine hr intervals and used oil is black when changed. Original engine has 11,400+ hrs on it.

It use to be normal for a 40yr old not to have any teeth either . "Normal" Doesn't make it right .
Maybe the engine is burning the fuel cleaner with less soot? Soot is black.

I don't think i have ever seen oil that come out of a diesel that wasn't black. It dont take long for it to turn black after you change it and run it for a while

Crappy oil that is not carrying the impurities but is instead letting it settle out to the bottom of the pan. I've seen nondetergent oil that looked brand new as it drained - but left a sludgy mess behind.

I would say very frequent oil changes.I do my cih485 every 100 hrs(once a year average),and it stays clean looking for a long time, but does get black by the time I change it.If I changed oil on something and it was almost immediately black,I would probably change it again very soon.Mark
