Would rating your tractor knowledge from 1-5 be helpful?

Just to throw this out there, I enjoy reading all the posts giving me some information on potential issues I may come across as a fairly new owner of a tractor, as my username suggests. Some posts I've read seem to be an easy fix and some are way out of anything I would want to tackle myself. 1=I've got a tractor somehow but don't know diddly. 2=I've driven it without hurting anyone. 3=I'm good but no expert. 4=expert and of course 5 is someone that most likely rebuilds his tractor every couple of months just for something to do :D Of course I put a little humor in there but seriously when you post something and gave yourself a rating of a 2, the information may be more in depth as opposed to someone with a 4. You could rate yourself in your bio to be posted with your username. It also give you an idea of the knowledge of who's giving the advice. One more thought, I see a lot of posts with almost nothing in the subject line, like "Ford Blue" what does that mean? You might not receive a response to help you if the subject doesn't give anyone a clue as to the problem. Like I said, just some ideas to hopefully help. :D

Oops, sorry, I'd rate my self at a 2. I've replaced a starter, run out of diesel, twice :( removed a box scraper and attached a rotary mower with a little trouble but it was my first time. I snapped three shear pins mowing 5 acres. First two my fault, the third I blame on a well camouflaged rock :? :D

This is kind of like sometimes you are the bug and sometimes you are the windshield, sometimes I am a 0 and sometimes a 4, never a 5.

And you got to learn how to bleed fuel lines/filters/pumps! I sometimes forget to turn the tank fuel on on the 5200 and she'll run for an amazing amount of time while hooking up the baler or what not, and just about the time it starts to sputter- I suddenly remember about the fuel valve. Course by then its bleed filter, pump etc thinking 10 seconds to turn the fuel on and now look what I'm wasting. About that time I'm feeling like 1!

I guess I'm about a 3.5 on a good day. I can fix most anything on the tractor that doesn't require special tools, but I don't do hydro transmissions or injector pumps.

At 77 and all crippled up I rate myself about a 1/2 but with that rating I never hire anyone to repair any of my tractors or equipment. I've never been smart enough to not rip into anything.

Ha! When we have new techs to train I try and tell them to not concentrate on the single task/problem but look at the big picture, as in one thing may have failed but is there a contributing factor. With your replies I find myself as the newbie too focused on one thing and not looking at the big picture :) I'm now back to a 1. I would go lower but it wasn't an option :D Thanks

Don't you know that the more people post the smarter they become,or at least given credit for. If there's anything you want to know, just look at the avitar and ask away. A more interesting system would have us rating one another.I'd give you my number had I not broke my arm patting myself on the back.

well, most everybody thinks i'm a zero. But its kind of funny that all the self proclaimed "experts" never seem to fix anything, so it leaves
a zero like me to fix the stuff. When I tell someone I will fix their stuff, they must think I'm a negative 100, cause they always think I am
asking to much for my work.

I't all about self promotion and perception. Most of the best I know say they are not that great.

Self rating is a tough call. Some knowledge with no ability to explain, is not much value. Neither is little knowledge
with a great explanation that has faults. If you stick around here a few months, and look at the number of responses,
things take on clarity. I wouldn't rate my self, but i give those questions I can contribute to a good faith effort. Jim

The definition of an expert - ex is an unknown, pert is a drip under pressure. Or he is more than 30 miles from home.

Woulden't work for me. I tell everyone I don't know nothing, don't want to know nothing and ain't gonna know nothing. Helps keep me out of trouble. When it's fixed I tell them even a blind squirrel can find an acorn once in a while.

Just remember an expert is somebody from out of town with a tie and a briefcase. Sad but true.

Technically I'm a 3. In my mind I'm a solid 12.

I know my stuff well and can help others on similar stuff, but that's about it.
