Tubless Front Tractor Tires/Rims

Pulled the front wheels off my trusty MF50 diesel over the weekend. We have lots of thorns - tubes over the years have been a pain in the buttox. I have successfully used Slime in the past - problem is, over time, thorns sticking through the tire make the hole in the tube larger and larger and at some point, the slime won't hold. Slime also has a shelf life too - as I'm to understand.

Now before anyone slams me on using slime - it works for me, just not as long as I'd like - especially in a tube application.

What I'd like to do is put on tubless wheels and rims and fill with slime. This would eliminate the tube and I think the slime would be more effective.

Don't think the old rims on my MF50 are tubless type - so I would need to find some.

6.00 - 16 wheels/tires is the size, 6 lug.

Anyone know of a source wheels/tubless tires of this size - not having much luck.

The alternative (which I'm reluctant to do) is foam fill the tires.

Thanks,
Bill

I'm not aware of anything "special" about the rims that make them tubeless. If they're clean and pinhole-free, just get some tubeless valve stems to fit the holes and go for it.

There are tons of tubeless tractor fronts on the market. Just google for them. Your local tractor tire dealer should be able to set you up.

like barnyard engineering said, if your rims have no pinholes, they should be fine. you could alsways brush a couple coats of por 15 rust conversion on the inside of the rims to help seal them. for tires, i run steel belt radial all season truck tires, get used ones, they seem to handle the thorns better, and the belts seem to chew up the ones that get thru. i run them on my brush hogging tractor, we have a lot of honey locust and hawthorne trees.

if you dont have any rivets holding the center tubeless should work. I would clean them and prime and paint that should make a good seal. Tubeless rims dont have any rivets.

Had the same problem, had mine foamed. Best I remember about $70 a tire? You do need good tires though, if the old ones are weather cracked, no use investing the foam in something that will soon fail.

Just use your rims. The rivets don't leak, and if they did , the slime will seal them ...I've never heard of factory riveted wheels leaking and I've mounted thousands of tires...

Look at Gensco Tire.....they sell flat proof tire and wheel
combos for a really good price. 24 ply. aircraft tires with a
sealer. Had some for over 20 yrs., never an issue.
They make equipment shows around the country.....look at their
website.

I have plenty of thorns too. Do you have room for a bigger tire? I use my old 7.50x16 14 ply tubeless trailer tires. I seldom have a flat but if I do then I put in a tire sealer. The coop has a sealer the I like better than slime but the name slips my memory.

We use the old tires from our trucks.. I run load range E steel belted on my half ton in order to avoid patching thorn holes. Leased land is full of mesquite and not cost efficient to root plow

Ok , circle the leaks and I'll have a look at 'em next time I'm over your way ...And even then I'm betting on sidewall or bead leaks, a tube will cover a multitude of problems ....

I finally found to use Slime for all tires, then use the Wal-Mart plug kits for larger holes. Fix myself, not a problem.
