Scrap Prices

Well last year was getting up to $12.00 per hundred for scrap. This year my friend that owns a junkyard and the other one I haul to shutdown when the price fell to $2.oo per hundred. One of them opened back up a month or so ago 3 days a week. I called today and its $5.00 per hundred. I'm located in Memphis area. I go through the sub divisions on my way to and from work on trash days and pick up metal and anything else I can use or sale. It's how I make my side money that the Misses don't know about. I've been stacking it up for about 6 months or so behind the shed. It's like I'm playing the stock market when it hits $7.00 or $8.00 I'm going to sell. What's it bringing in your parts of the world?

was cleaning some stuff in my yard that had to go now .also have stuff savin for when goes up,but it was only paying 3 dollars per hundred...i think i had 480 lbs paid like 14 dollars..i needed a car battery so i grabbed one , it weighed 32 pounds and cost me 16 dollars..........wow.......go buy some steal its like gold.......cars use to bring 4 to 5 hundred dollars, now they would pay 90 dollars, thats not even worth loading on the trailer............dewy

Last I sold $65/ton mixed steel April 5, Elliot Scrapping Risingsun, OH. Took in 680 lb. Got $22.10. At least there are no traffic jams like when it was over $200/ton.

I haul 2-8-9n fords to the scrapper. I can give 100.00-200.00 each for them, remove the rear tires and have my pal in the tire shop sell them. have 2 to haul next week. The rest goes straight to the scrapper. The only thing any money is made on are the tires. I used to sell parts off them but so many people stole stuff I gave up on that. Kinda tells you what scrap is bringing here.

Just took a bunch in this week. Short steel is $189 a ton, brake drums and rotors are $200 a ton, and tin or cars, farm machinery is $154 a ton. This is in Binghamton NY.

No but where do you think I get my extra money to pay for my old tractor addiction! My check goes in the bank from work twice a month and I don't hardly ever ask for toy money maybe a Harbor Freight item every now and then so this way I get toys and the misses is happy thinking she controls all of the money! Win Win I'd say.

Took a load in from a front end alignment shop yesterday, brakes, drums and shocks from cars and pickups. $120 a ton. Norfolk Nebraska

I don't understand how you can afford to scrap them at the prices they bring at auctions. Sounds like you just want to get rid of them because you do not like them and want no body else to have them. 2 weeks ago a 2N at auction barly running, patched hole in tranny all bad sheat metal brought $850. How can you get that out of then scrapping them?

Too bad scrap prices have crashed.

There's an old biddy that lives down the road that leads into my hunting property. My buddy bought off all the farmland that went with her place, but she still owns 3 acres and the old shelter belt is dang near 100% made up of junk cars, not trees.

It looks like busted @ss. It's a huge eyesore, but since it's not a junkyard business, the township can't or won't crack down on her.

Back when prices were really high years ago, my friend that bought off the farmland went to see her and said, hey we just had a guy come out and haul off scrap and got good money for it. You're sitting on about 10,000 in junk cars stacked out in that shelter belt, why not sell?

Well the old biddy had the guy come out and he said, 12,500 cash money for all that cr@p but only if we do the deal today.

Well for whatever reason, that gets her thinking she's sitting on a gold mine so she told him to take a hike. Well, it must have been eating at her or she needed money, so 5 years later she calls the guy back. He says, fine, but now the price is 2500.

The Scrap Man said she squealed like a pig and cussed him out for about 30 minutes on the phone. He put her on speaker phone and the guys in the office were dying laughing. Every time she'd lose steam, he'd stoke her up again with, "Well, you should have sold when the price was high. Now it's low..." Squeaaaaaaaal, cuss, cuss, cuss, squeeeeeeeeeal..." She'd start up again.

Life is hard. It's even harder when you're stupid. It was great when the price was high because a lot of sh!theap properties got cleaned up finally, but it wasn't near enough.
